Game 9 - Houston Texans @ BEARS - 7:20 PM SNF

Simmons said in his podcast today that he doesn't know what to think of the Bears, since they've been barely beating teams week after week.

He must have them confused with the Falcons or something.

Weird...thats the same thing he said last week. Guess a 31 point drubbing didn't affect his views. Well than what about the Bears having the best point differential in the lead? How about 5 of the Bears 7 wins being by 16 points or more (most in the NFL)?

Simmons is just like any other analyst in that he stereotypes NFL teams, and those stereotypes are likely influenced by one or two particular games. For whatever reason the Lions and Panthers games have stuck in his head and have now defined the Bears in his mind. I understand that its nearly impossible for someone to have their finger on the pulse of all 32 teams at once, but at least do a little research before you go on the air. Maybe Barnwell can tell him whats up since Bill seems to get most of his NFL insights from him.

He's just so focused on the AFC. He picked every AFC team against every NFC team last week, and three of the games were NFC blowouts, and the fourth was a Giants collapse in the 4th.

Made it out to the Cutler show today. Fun times.

I love the show, but god, callers make me cringe. Callers are far and away the worst part of talk radio.

Well, they generally try to pick callers that make the radio hosts look smart. Depending on the radio hosts, that tends to be a low bar.

Yeah, I don't doubt it. B&B really hate their callers. Also I'm pretty sure they kinda sorta don't like Zach Zaidman too...lol

God the ESPN callers today were horrible.

I am pretty pessimistic when it comes to my teams and their chances, but it still pisses me off when the national media disrespects them for annoying reasons like this. Like you said, they have had more blowouts than seemingly every other team in the league, and yet, when the panthers keep it close against them it goes back to "well see the bears aren't that good." Never mind the fact that the Panthers have lost every game but 1 by less than a touchdown. And the teams that get tons of respect like the giants are seemingly in a close game every other week, but the bears are disrespected by being in a close game at the half with the Jags when they ended up winning by nearly 40.

Hahahahaha I guess he doesn't like checkin box scores or the point differential standings.

Have the Texans figured out what they're doing with Cushing out for the year? I have to think losing him has to have a significant effect on how good their defense is now. Might be mitigated a bit against the Bears porous offensive line though.

They still have JJ Watt...

Cutler is 12-1 in his last 13.

I feel like analysts and announcers usually pounce all over stuff like this and talk about it often. I've never heard anyone talk about this stat other than people on message boards.

Not only that... Cutler is 25-9 in the past 3 years in the games he started. Good for a 73.5 winning %. Not sure how many QBs in the NFL have a better % than that in the past 3 years, but Cutler only played 33 games out of 40.

That's exactly why I threw that last sentence in there!

Your math is messed up somewhere. Cutler hasn't missed anywhere near 15 games. He missed 6 games last year, the Carolina game the year before and nothing else. Looks like you're counting games that haven't even been played yet (only 40 games from start of 2010 to now). And if you take out the first 6 of 2010 (won first 3, lost next 3), Cutler is 21-6 in his last 27 starts.

Soooo how many sacks does JJ Watt get on Sunday?

3, and everyone goes oooh, ahh.

oh, and then we win anyway.

Oops. Fixed that. Was thinking 3 full seasons in my mind, but it's 2 1/2 so far.

I find it annoying that guys like Simmons are allowed to maintain their illusion of being experts, despite not having much knowledge.

But, the reality is, his impact is non-existent. Nobody who really knows anything allows something like that to pass unchecked. I wish he didn't get to pull down a salary for it, but it's not really any skin off my back.

I see no point whatsoever in getting annoyed with Simmons or anyone else in the media not giving the Bears respect. There are also people within the media saying the Bears are superbowl contenders.

I can 100% guarantee, that if they win the next 2 games, they will get plenty of respect. And who cares about respect anyways? Games are decided on the field. And teams seem to play better with a chip on their shoulder.

And personally, I'll be pleasantly surprised to see the Bears win this Sunday. So maybe I'm just as guilty as everyone else in not giving the Bears their due.

I'm watching the game the Texans had on Sunday. I noticed they're not afraid to run on third and long and there is a lot of empty WR sets. I'm not concerned about their offense.

The Texans defense plays very fast and will probably dominate the line of scrimmage. Fitzpatrick routinely has more time to throw then Jay. I just can't see us sustaining drives and not turning the ball over. Our oline is atrocious.

My prediction 17-10 Texans

So I was thinking, when we played Carolina, our most effective drive was in hurry up at the end of the game. Obviously part of that was chicken [expletive] defense by Carolina, but I also think that the Bears should try using the hurry up more often. Maybe even to start games. It could help limit the pass rush by not giving the rushers time to catch their breath and it could keep them from changing defenses up too much. Also might help the receivers get open a bit more.

Well, between what you just said and what Jay said about wanting more screen passes, I think that may play in the Bears' favor. Fast defense usually means aggressive to the ball and that could very well leave them vulnerable to screens.

They talked about using it more after the Jacksonville game. Haven't seen it all that much, though.

Hopefully the 2 big Forte plays on screens opened Tice's eyes.

I'm going to go:

Bears 24

Texans 20

I think the Bears' D limits the Texans offense just enough. They hit the end zone a couple times. Bears get just enough O and other points to get it done at home. Close, entertaining game all the way through.

Prepare for a long night Sunday. You aren't going to bed early.

Personally, I thought it was the fact that they used the quick slant over an over again. The hurry up was a huge part too though because the Panthers weren't able to change their coverage to adjust to the play though.

I just don't think the Bears use the quick slant enough, especially when it's the best weapon against a blitz happy team. I was screaming for a quick slant agains the Packers.
