Game 9 - Houston Texans @ BEARS - 7:20 PM SNF

Posted

Picks are starting to come out. To my surprise, 8 out of the 10 ESPN dudes that have made predictions have picked the Bears. Accuscore also has Chicago.

Pete Prisco on CBSsports.com has Texans 20 Bears 17. As far as the rest of the CBS guys, 5 have the Bears straight up vs. 3 for the Texans (ATS is the same).

All 4 of the Yahoo guys have the Texans winning (one is "Yahoo Users')

Whatifsports' computers have the Bears winning 23-22 and winning 53% of the time, the closest margin for any matchup this week.

Both guys at PFT have the Bears winning.

I really hope they screen to death this aggressive Texans defense. The blitz will be coming hot and heavy.

Definitely have to do something early to keep the pressure off. Carimi and Webb are gonna be in for a long day.

HOU ranks dead last in ST in the DVOA's.

I highly recommend a couple Hester return TDs, and another blocked punt. That'll take some pressure off everything :)

But what does the Madden simulation have?

Going to be interesting to see how both teams try and move the ball. Quick passes sound good for the Bears but Watt is like Mutumbo in there. I think they are going to have to move the pocket a bunch. Screens haven't really worked much against Houston either. Ray Rice caught 5 but only for 14 yards. Spiller did break a big one last week but he's incredibly fast. Fred Jackson also caught 5 for little yardage.

Per Brad Biggs, Jeffrey was not wearing a contraption that he's had on his hand since the injury. Could mean he practices today.

Tillmans wife is being induced Monday according to twitter (apparently she's not due til later this month) so it doesn't sound like he'll miss the game

Huh, I thought she was indeed due Sunday. Wasn't that what brought the issue up in the first place?

No. In his original response he mentioned Monday being the day, he was just hoping it doesn't come early for some reason.

Probably because babies have a tendancy to come earlier than expected.

Right, but if it's not due til later in the month, that should help the chances of it not happening till Monday immensely.

Much ado about nothing essentially.

Well yeah, I thought that was clear from the start (that the actual chances of her having the baby at a time that would cause Peanut to miss the game were very slim). But of course it's taken a life of its own and has been blown up.

Has it ever.

FWIW re: the no-huddle offense. Based on ESPNs play-by-plays the Bears have run about 10 plays in the no huddle. 6 passes, 4 runs with a couple holding penalties negating 2 of the best no-huddle plays. GB, Detroit, St Louis and Dallas almost ran exclusive no huddle. So the Bears have done pretty well against it.

(Texas Defensive Coordinator Wade) Phillips said the Bears have “only thrown it to one guy basically,” and that the Texans have to make stopping that one guy the focal point of their coverage.

“Marshall’s a great receiver,” Phillips said, via ESPNChicago.com, “but they haven’t thrown it to the other guys very much except the running back. They do a great job of that. He’s a tremendous receiver.”

Phillips is basically correct: Marshall has 59 catches for 797 yards and seven touchdowns this season. No one else on the Bears has more than 20 catches, 200 yards or two touchdowns.

Phillips also offered a wry observation about how the Texans can stop him: “We double cover him every play,” Phillips said. “That’s our plan. We’re going to double cover him every play.

Although there's a chance -- which looks slimmer by the day -- that Jeffery could return this week according to sources, the Bears plan to hold out the receiver against the Texans to minimize the risk of re-injury to his broken right hand, before bringing him back for a Nov. 19 matchup with the San Francisco 49ers.

Time to step up Earl.
