Weird source, but Brett picked it up as well...

http://www.bleachernation.com/2012/11/02/carlos-marmol-may-have-been-traded-to-the-angles-and-it-may-be-for-dan-haren/

According to Yancen Pujols of the Caribbean, a Dominican media outlet, Carlos Marmol says he’s been traded to the Angels. Given the timing, if it’s true, it seems like Dan Haren will be involved.

Obviously I’ll have many updates as soon as possible.

Could just be smoke, but would be awesome if true, if that's all it took (+ money, I'd assume)

Not a weird source. He works for one of the top papers in the Dominican.

Well then nevermind then :)

Haren is 32 years old it seems his velocity has faded.

Hopefully he bounces back and pitches well and can get moved for a nice piece at the deadline. I am a tad skeptical, but it was good to get another rough contract off the books.

even i like this and i hate everything

guess we'll have to wait for gooney to tell us why it's terrible

You might have to wait a while for him to get electricity back.

(Hope he's oK.)

Worst case scenario, the Cubs get 170-220 almost walk-free, slightly above average innings instead of 60-80 walk-filled, slightly above average innings.

yesssssssss. he wasn't even really bad last year

can't wait for kyle to find something wrong with this trade.

It will be very interesting to see what the rotation looks like in 2014 to say the least.

Will Garza be resigned?

Will the #2 overall pick be a college arm?

What will Haren be traded for?

Will Theo go after a guy like Josh Johnson or Jon Lester?

Possibly trade for a Buchholz type younger SP that has had ML success?

If Theo moves Garza and Haren this year I will be surprised, but very excited. Best case scenario IMO is Garza/Haren both pitch lights out and are traded for arms that are near ML ready, Shark develops into at minimum a #3 SP. A college arm emerges for our #2 pick in June and moves quickly. I am confident in Jed/Theo filling out the rest of the roster from that point.

The only negative thing I can possibly say is that this just makes it even more imperative that they add a guy or two to stabilize the bullpen.

Otherwise, it's awesome.

Holy balls you arent blasting a Theo move.

The Angels could be sending money? ROFL. I'd be OK with this deal if we were picking up Haren's contract and paying all of Marmol's too.

I've liked a ton of Theo moves. Most of my complaints have been that moves like this show what our FO is capable of if they were choosing to focus more resources on the present.

I could see Matt Capps and/or Jon Rauch added to the pen.

Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (via Twitter) notes that the Angels could help close the gap in salary by contributing all or part of Haren's $3.5MM buyout.

What the hell? The Cubs are getting money back?
