Not sure why it's such a big deal. It wasn't any major issue with the two players. Here is Kevin Sumlin's explanation on the decision.

“The decision was made before the Louisiana Tech game  and was explained to both guys. They weren’t involved in any of the preparation for the game. Howard Matthews is playing scout team wide receiver. To go back to back weeks with them being on scout team I didn’t think was right, and they were suspended for that game. With the storm, things changed a lot for everybody. What I told them from the beginning is that they were going to stay suspended for that football game.”

You're really trying to pass this off as not being utter nonsense?

Seriously.

no surprises there

"The decision was not easy, but I feel it is in the best interest of this program and for these kids, and those always will be my priorities. We have choices every day, and you have to be accountable to this program, your teammates, your family and the University of Michigan.

"These are our sons. These are real lives, and I think too often many people forget that. It's not always just about football, or a football decision. It's about teaching life lessons, and if this helps these kids or someone else make a right decision later, then we've won. That is ultimately what we are here for, to help them grow and mature to become better sons, fathers, husbands and members of society.

"They are good young men who made poor choices, and we will continue to support them as members of our team and family."

Look, only one of the two guys is going to play and he is a safety. The one area on our crappy defense where we have depth is the secondary. We're going to win games by outscoring people, not shutting them down. It really isn't a big deal. If he was a starting QB or RB, then I could see your point.

If it's no big deal, Sumlin should just suspend them for Florida b/c it's the first game instead of coming up with stupid excuses.

I agree. I would have held them out of the Florida game but it's not my decision to make. I also think it's not nearly as big of a deal as you guys want to make it. Then again you're probably just trying to get me riled up. Either way, I don't really give a [expletive]. It's not like we're going to win more than 6-7 games this year anyway.

Good thing he didn't spill the beans before now. Saban is going to have to totally revamp his defense to account for the no Fitz O.

And they managed to tackle him to stop him from scoring points for their team. What HuffPo didn't seem to mention is that it couldn't have been returned anymore.

The beauty of this play is in trying to figure out exactly how many players failed to notice the guy was running in the wrong direction.

Given that there are only two guys [edit: on Kent] even close to him when he's tackled, I'm guessing he was the last on his team to figure it out

And MSU has destroyed Boise in the first 8 minutes.

Really good game by Tennessee tonight. The defense was pretty bad early on, but it seemed to settle in and consistently got pressure on Glennon, forcing him into 3 picks (4 actually, but the last one was a desperation toss into the end zone at the end).

Cordarrelle Patterson is an absolute freak - big, fast, and had a huge half in his first FBS game. If he can play well from the start of the year, I feel a lot better about this team. The running game was also huge - 194 rushing yards is pretty amazing after averaging 90 yards/game last year. If we can run the ball consistently (100 yards/game would be great) and keep the Bray/Hunter/CP trio healthy, we could be better than the 8 wins I predicted.

MSU has a RB with 22 carries at halftime.

MSU has a RB with 44 carries at the end of the game.

Sure hope Le'Veon Bell can handle that kind of work for an entire season. I doubt he stays healthy touching the ball 50 times a game.

No wonder he ended up with 210 yards rushing.

That'd be a decent season for a team making the jump up to FBS.

If there's one thing that keeps defensive coordinators up at night it's Big 10 skill players.

What is your blinding hate of the Big Ten about? Butthurt you couldn't get into any of them? Just trolling?
