Man, that's brutal. Segura's had a terrible 2014 too, I wonder if his son was sick and that weighed on him.

Roenicke didn't know much as of last night based on what I saw. Didn't sound like it had been more than a few days though.

My though was S.I.D.S. If his son was in some dire condition for any length of time, I'd have to think he'd have already been on leave.

Also, I don't think I've ever actually seen Michael Brantley. I just assumed he was Jeff Brantley's kid, so I was shocked when I saw that he's not white.

I don't know why I didn't pay enough attention to it until just now.

But holy crap is Texas a dumpster fire.

Close. He's Mickey Brantley's son (Mariners OF in the late 80s).

Is there gonna be ASG thread?? If not, the classiest team in baseball bing classy.

Matheny on why he went Wainwright over Kershaw: "Have the utmost respect for Clayton." But Wainwright b/c of leadership & performance

Been watching a little bit if them as FSSW is in with the regular channels here. It's a perfect storm of terribleness. They had quite a few defections and have been decimated by injuries. Fielder, Harrison, Holland, Ogando, Soto and Profar all have had time on the DL.

im not even gonna fact check this cause it owns so hard it has to be true

Or more succinctly: in 2004, 668 different batters combined for 100,207 plate appearances of .263/.333/.423 (.756 OPS) hitting in the National League. Without Bonds's 617 PA, that line falls to .262/.330/.421 (.751 OPS). Bonds, then 39 years old and responsible for only six-tenths of a percent of the league's plate appearances that year, raised the league OPS five points by himself.

I don't think it can possibly be correct. I just ran some (inexact) numbers and get .002 of OPS (almost all OBP), which is still impressive.

And let me say, that year from a mid-prime first ballot HOFer is beyond impressive, from a 39 year old it is insane.

in his defense, if you're just going purely on performance, wainwright's run-prevention has basically been as good as kershaw, and he's started 5 more games. of course, wainwright has been extremely lucky this year (lowest BABIP, lowest HR/FB rate and highest LOB% of his career) whereas kershaw's luck has been neutral overall, or he's even been slightly unlucky. if you were picking one to start a must-win game it would obviously be kershaw, but in terms of pure run-prevention and value for the first half, it is a close call.

Yeah. It's a close call and the manager went with a guy from his own team. Not really shocking at all. I'd expect pretty much any manager would do the same thing.

They're 1A and 1B. Matheny earned the ASG managing gig by getting his team into the ws - so he chooses his pitcher over Kershaw, a choice he earned. Wheres the argument?

For All-Star game recognition, I have no problem giving it to the guy who started the extra five games in the first half.
