If it's what I'm thinking of it was a pretty terrible article on FG that said since he had his best success against the worst offenses he wasn't that good. Well, most pitchers are going to have their best successes against the worst offenses.

Yeah, that seems like a piss poor reason to say he wasn't as good as advertised. It's not like Max Scherzer didn't get the luxury of facing the Astros or the Mariners.

The only teams that really lit Jimenez up last year were the Tigers (6.92 ERA in 3 starts), Yankees (14.54 ERA in 1 start), and Red Sox (37.80 ERA in 1 start).

The only other team where he had an ERA over 4 was, ironically, against the Marlins (4.50 ERA in 1 start). He dominated the Rangers, Blue Jays, A's, Royals, Orioles, White Sox, Angels, and Reds. Most of those are pretty damn good offenses.

By WAR it's not close, Jeter(73 fWAR) crushes Mariano(40). WPA, on the other hand, favors Mariano(57) over Jeter(32).

40fWAR as a reliever. That is just absurd.

154th overall for pitchers, just a smidge below Derek Lowe and 8.5 seasons of Felix Hernandez.

#1 for relievers by over 10 though.

While I agree with your overall point, the White Sox's offense was actually worse than ours, as hard as it is to believe.

So I feel like teams should be preparing gift baskets for the Jeter farewell tour...

At this point it seems a lot more likely that Ubaldo settles for something in the 3/39 range than 4/60 or 5/75. He's still tied to a draft pick, was the worst pitcher in all of baseball (using xFIP) the year before last, and it's now mid-February. There's no way in h$ll he's getting $60+ million at this point.

I hope it doesn't come out at some point hat Jeter was on PEDs. I have heard at least 3 different people talk about how he has been a light in a very dark period for MLB. I thought it odd that anyone would assume that any player is clean and make such a statement.

Confetti/balloons! You're the 1,000,000th person to make this joke today

Both Fangraphs projections and PECOTA have the Brewers in third place, although ahead of different teams.

I don't think that's, that unreasonable. If you are to assume regression from the Reds/Pirates and think you are getting health and performance out of Braun/Ramirez/Gomez/Lucroy/Segura/Gallardo/Garza.

It's certainly possible he's used, as it's possible just about anyone who's played MLB baseball has used, but he's had a pretty normal career track and there hasn't been even the slightest whisper of evidence against him. I think it's safe to say he's clean.

I love Derek Jeter as a legendary baseball player and cocksman. He should be in the MLB hall of fame and the Playa' hall of fame. I think it's more likely he's gay than it is he did PEDs.

Yeah, I'd be in on him at 3/39. Fo sho. That's a gamble to take. Now, a lot of other teams might be too. But soon here we need to start winning.

Baker also told the paper he contacted several teams with vacant manager positions this offseason -- the Washington Nationals, Seattle Mariners and Detroit Tigers -- but never heard back.

"What's it take to call back and say, 'No, thank you?"' Baker said.

The Nationals ended up hiring former All-Star Matt Williams, who has called Baker a mentor. Baker told the Mercury News that his reaching out to the Nationals was symbolic.

"I didn't want to do anything that would ice [Williams] out of the job," Baker said. "I told him, 'That's not why I put my name in the hat. I put my name in the hat to show people I wasn't through.'"

1 - Dusty really really loves to play the victim card.

2 - lol at the bold.

Hopefully Mozeliak drinks three too many Buds and hires Dusty next. He ain't through.

I know people hate Yankees-Red Sox ESPN slobbering, but honestly I love it, at least when it covers the time when they deserved it.

Someday, that Epstein will show up ... *wistful sigh*
