Career salary game... how much do you think Erik Bedard has made in his career? This is his 10th season.

$110 million? I know he had one good sized contract with the Orioles.

I think he was an old rookie so less than you'd think? $42M

He threw virtually every pitch for Saibi at Koshien, including a 13-inning complete game in which he threw 232 pitches. But in the awful final, he fell apart, terrifyingly and completely, eventually losing 17-1, pulled only after he'd thrown his 772nd pitch over five games in nine days. His fastball was not nearly so fast; his curveball no longer broke; his slider stayed flat. Every one of his instruments abandoned him, and yet he had continued to throw until his precious right arm hung limp at his side. Don Nomura, the agent who represents Darvish, told Yahoo's Jeff Passan that Anraku's treatment was nothing less than child abuse, a sentiment shared by several American scouts. Those strong words traveled over the ocean and upset many in Japan, where if anyone saw Tomohiro Anraku as a victim, he was blessed to be one. In fact, he's been given the most coveted and celebrated title of all. He is a kaibutsu.

Anraku is a monster. Anraku is a beast.

Not sure where to put this.

Leading statistician and best-selling author Nate Silver will join ESPN later this year in a multifaceted role that will include coverage of sports, economics, culture, science and technology on ESPN's website.

Silver, who rose to fame with his award-winning website, FiveThirtyEight.com, also will appear on ESPN and its broadcast partner, ABC News. FiveThirtyEight.com, which had been hosted on The New York Times website since 2010, will be independent of ESPN but connect to other sites owned by the network and parent company Disney.

Yeah, we talked about Anraku during that tournament in the Minor League Forum international thread.

Definitely a reminder of how dangerous it is to sign teenager pitchers from Asia (Dae-Eun Rhee and Jae-Kuk Ryu are good cautionary tales).

I just looked at the Orioles-Royals box score tonight, Chris Davis is hitting 5th? Is that where he's been hitting all year? I don't follow the Orioles at all and it's not like they were facing a tough lefty or anything, Wade Davis, a righty, started for KC.

He's batted 5th for all but 12 games.

The Rays are 18-2 in their last 20. The Astros are 3-17 in their last 20. Both Rays losses came to the Astros.

I would still be worried about paying Felix $25MM AAV through his age 33 season given his team is unlikely to be competitive during his window of effectiveness. I could certainly be wrong, though.

I realize going 18-2 against anyone is impressive, but 15 of those wins came against the four worst teams (record-wise) in the AL.

Well that doesn't seem like the most ideal/maximized spot for him to be in

So the Giants and Reds are making up a rainout from earlier this year in Cincinnati, but are playing this game in San Francisco with the Reds as the home team. They're playing a doubleheader today, with the Giants as the home team in Game 1 and the Reds as the home team in Game 2.

The last time I remember something like this happening was Big Z's no-hitter against the Astros in Milwaukee.

That's odd, its still fairly early in the season. Are the Giants really not going back east the rest of the season? I'm surprised the Reds were ok with this.

Wasn't there a situation floated in late 2005 with the Cubs against the Marlins in Wrigley with the Marlins as the home team because of a hurricane? It didn't happen but I know there was lots of talk about it.

Early enough in the season that it's odd that a team is forced to play a home game at the opponents park, especially when that team is in the division/wild card race.

It's baseball. The home field advantage isn't about a crowd getting you hyped up. As for the other question, the Giants are heading back east multiple times, but all their off days coincide with Reds games.

anyone else pissed at how fast Chris Carpenter is rehabbing? Ridiculous

He's already rehabbing in double A. This was a guy that was supposed to miss the whole year and probably be done with his career, and now he'll undoubtedly be pitching game 1 of the World Series.

Not so fast my friend.......

That's just the last side effect of the pixy dust settling in
