Sveum said he'd be surprised if Dempster wasn't dealt. Not a shock just surprised he said it.

I feel like we've done that before. If all our marginal guys turn in average seasons, and we don't think about the bullpen, it might turn out okay.

Of course, it might have turned out okay this year too if a few more things had gone our way.

Ok, it didn't go well this year. Would you say at this point you are much more excited about our team going forward than you were last year at the same time?

Maybe? That's the best answer I can give. A lot depends on how interested Epstein and such are in trying to upgrade. Samardzija and Rizzo have taken big leaps forward, and I'm a bit more comfortable with Barney being able to stay in the .680 OPS range.

I'm just saying that going into this season, we had a lot of WAR lists that penciled Marlon Byrd in for 3, our catchers in for 2, Ian Stewart and Ian Stewart for 1.5, and we figured the bullpen might be okay.

I think we've added young talent. Rizzo, Soler, and torreyes. Baez has been as good as we could have hoped for. This years draft looks great so far. Now all we need to do is start adding upside arms. I can't believe anyone could look at the strides we've made in on year and not see we have the right people running thngs.

My mistake. I thought you were asking specifically about the 2013 Cubs.

Yes, I'm quite excited about the long-term potential this front office has brought in, and the Rizzo, Marshall and aborted Dempster trades were masterstrokes.

Ok, gotcha I do wish that delgado dempster trade would have went through. That would have sped things up.

It would have been spectacular, well beyond reasonable expectation. I can understand why Epstein was reportedly livid that it fell apart.

Yeah he trade raped them, much like he did the padres for Rizzo. I bet he hates seeing Dempster right now.

Theo probably has to spit Dempster's name though his teeth when discussing him with other treams.

Buster Olney @Buster_ESPN

Alfonso Soriano has been part of Ryan Dempster talks for days, but there hasn't been any recent dialogue between LAD/Cubs.

Again - lol wut?

No one knows wtf is going on. When whatever it is that is going to happen actually happens, it'll probably be a surprise to all.

It's now public information that Ryan Dempster is getting divorced.

Juicy.

Dempster and his wife, Jenny, filed for divorce just before the season started, and despite speculation, Dempster and others close to him insist that it has played no role in his greater desire to go to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

good if you ask me. If we make a trade with the Dodgers we are more than likely going to get ripped off, because they figure they can fleece us and we have no leverage.

In other news, Paul Sullivan has apparently decided to just give up and start hitting the booze:

Paul Sullivan @PWSullivan

Dempster's last day at Wrigley Doesn't seem nostalgiac. Me neither.

It means he is assuming Dempster gets dealt and that there is no warm, fuzzy, remember the good times, sad to see you go vibe going on.

I think everyone, including Ryan, is ready for him to gtfo at this point.

So then get the Braves deal back on the table and put it in Dempster's hands. It wouldn't be for lack of trying to get fair value from the Dodgers.

I may be crazy, but I think that is still a distinct possibility, barring the Braves adding a different SP or the Dodgers ponying up (Webster).

Why doesn't Theo just tell Dempster LA is not an option? If they're so far away from the Braves offer tell Dempster he can either go to ATL or stay in Chicago. No other options.

According to B&B on the Score, the new front office is sick of Ryan Dempster not to mention mad at him about the Atlanta deal. It sounded like his divorce isn't the only thing that was not public knowledge. Terry Boers said something to the effect, they just want him out of there and may have to settle for something far less than they hoped.

Who knows what is really true, but it is interesting that Sveum made the comment that he doubts Dempster is with the team for tomorrow's game.

Practicing eating money like Ricketts if he trades Sori. Mmmmm. twitpic.com/adn08a

I'm really starting to think Sullivan is drunk, you guys.

dudes, we're still getting delgado. cubs are leaking all the stuff about LA offering them garbage so they can say "see ryan, we tried hard but these guys are unreasonable. we even tried getting alfonso involved". then dempster will agree to go to atl in the final hours.

notice how there have been no rumors whatsoever about the braves the last few days? weren't they going hard for a pitcher? then they don't even try for greinke (when atl was apparently one of zack's preferred teams), when the angels got him for a mediocre package?

we got this
