Right now you still have 3 starting outfielders and campana.

Add in, they grabbed DeJesus for very little last year(and johnson for that matter) no reason to think they can't adequately fill the OF if Jackson is involved in any trade.

You have to have pitching, pitching, pitching. You have pitching prospects you can deal them to fill any spot on the field...and usually for a proven commodity rather than a prospect.

heck, I'm sure we could flip on of these guys for Carlos Lee!

#Cubs discouraging talk of Brett Jackson coming up. But it looks like Casey Coleman on his way back to pitch

Could it be that Brett Jackson is being used as a chip to try to bring a better return for Dempster or Garza?

Brooks Raley should be the only option.

OMG shut up about brooks raley.

Wouldn't mind it at all if we could get a good pitcher back in return. I've lost almost all hope in Jackson.

Then what does our outfield look like next year, and please don't say the same as it does now.

The Cubs have the whole offseason to figure that out. I don't think Jackson is going to make or break the outfield at this point.

True. The question is how many spots will need to be filled? I'd like BJ Upton for CF.

Why? When your clearly having a fire sale-and a damn good one I might add, the open roster spots should be given to guys who might be of use in the future. Raley may be no better than Randy Wells-and I mean 2012 Randy Wells, but unlike the other options, he's yet to prove that he's crap.

They are not going to use up another 40 man roster spot until all the deals are done and they are sure they won't need it. Coleman is fine for a spot start.

#Cubs include cash in four-player trade with #Braves. Remember: They are willing to include cash in every deal to get better players.

I'm calling for one of Lindblom or Tolleson to be in a Dempster deal tomorrow. The Dodgers didn't need League.

It would be sweet to get Lindblom as a Purdue guy.

Kaplan says that the Dodgers, Rangers, and Yankees are all after Dempster, and that Dempster will approve a deal to all 3.

Baseball sources have confirmed to me that three teams are in play for Ryan Dempster and he will approve a deal to any of the three teams if the Cubs can agree on a suitable return in exchange for the veteran right-hander who is enjoying one of the best seasons of his career. The Los Angeles Dodgers, who have long been Dempster's preferred destination will have to increase their offer as the Texas Rangers and New York Yankees have stepped up their pursuit over the last 48 hours. With Roy Oswalt having another poor performance on Monday evening, the Rangers have decided to upgrade their rotation and are looking at all available options including Dempster and Matt Garza.

"Texas is serious about adding a starter and Dempster isn't as expensive to trade for as Garza would be, but after finishing as runners-up in the last two World Series and seeing the Angels add Zach Greinke, Texas management has decided to make a run at adding pitching, a baseball source told me. "However, with three teams seriously involved, it won't be cheap to acquire him even though it is potentially a three-month rental."

"Dempster has made it clear to Cubs management that he would like to play in Los Angeles but he also understands that Epstein and Hoyer have a job to do and he will not stand in their way if it means that the best deal is somewhere else," a source with knowledge of the discussions told me this morning. "He never told them he would only go to LA, he only said that he wanted time to make the best decision for him and his family and that is his right as a 10/5 [10 years in the majors, the lat five with your current team] man. Ryan is serious about wanting to win a World Series and he will approve a deal if it gives him that chance. People who have been critical of him about the Atlanta deal don't have all of the facts."
