Please Jeebus let a team make the dance with a 4-27 record. Pretty please.

http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/blog/eye-on-college-basketball/21799947/grambling-state-completes-infamous-winless-regular-season

Two years removed from playing in the SWAC title game with an NCAA tournament berth on the line, Grambling State has completed what might be the worst regular season in modern college basketball history.

The Tigers, whose tribulations we've documented on the blog this year, lost 74-62 to Alabama State on Saturday, sealing their winless record, finishing 0-27 and never losing a game in single digits. Under first-year coach Joseph Price, Grambling State will wind up last in every mainstream ranking system: RPI, KenPom, BPI, Sagarin. No. 347. That is their number, the lowest number in college basketball, lower than zero.

Grambling State can still make the NCAA tournament because Grambling State is still eligible for the SWAC tournament, meaning there is the most desperate and faintest of chances that the ultimate folly can come to be: a four-win team playing in the Big Dance.

It's incredible how just about all of the 1-seed candidates have at least one inexplicable loss on their resume. IU's the only one I can think of without a really terrible one (road losses to Illinois and Minnesota are nothing to be ashamed of).

Every game they've lost has been to a team that's going to be a top 7 seed in the NCAA's. But I am ashamed of the Ohio St. loss. I just dont think they are a very good team. I think Illinois is a more complete team actually. Not that OSU is bad, but as I said earlier, can't lose that game on that day under those circumstances on Tuesday.

I don't think Illinois or Minnesota is a top 7 seed right now. They're both locks, but they might both need to beat somebody good to get back to top 7

Have to say . . . one wonders if that result wasn't caused, at least in part, by their coaching planning a Big Ten title celebration, full with trophy presentation and cutting of the nets, proir to the game.

I thought that if IU won the Big Ten title outright and celebrated after the Ohio State game, then the Michigan game could be a difficult mental-hangover type game. Never would I have expected that to come after backing into a shared title (likely multiple-ways!).

I love railing on Crean, but really he's done a great job of getting IU back. That said, he is one weird dude. Win the game and sure cut the nets down. What happened was just weird as all get out. He's kind of similar to weber in that I always cringe when he gets to talk, you don't know what he's gonna say or do.

They probably will lose on Sunday but I'm at least expecting a fired up effort. I'll be very disappointed if they mail it in.

I agree he has done an amazing job. He is weird but main thing I get puzzled with is some of his in game coaching decisions like randomly playing zone defense even though we aren't good at it and his substitution patterns are beyond bizarre at times. I wish he would tighten up the rotation to 7-8 guys. Our bench sucks and plays too many minutes at times.

I get the bench thing. In order to keep recruiting as he has he's gotta play a deep bench. The zone thing I don't get either, you've got the best man defender in college basketball right now. I get that hulls can be a liability, but you are allowed to sub him out if you have to.

For sure, he's done an amazing job. While people complain about his coaching tactics in-game (rightfully, in my opinion, as sometimes it's inexplicable), this misses the forest for the trees. The job of a coach is to win. Recruiting is, at least, as big of a part of that as anything, and probably more. Player development matters a lot too. Globally, I don't find it very relevant if the winning is done because of recruiting or coaching (and it will never be fair to compare Crean to Knight in 1987 or 1989). IU is 25-5, that is what matters.*

*(Now, that said, I find myself thinking that IU should be better than 25-5 with this roster . . . but maybe a better tactical coach doesn't land Zeller or doesn't recruit and help Oladipo develop, etc., etc.)

Not that it means anything, but if they both lose this weekend(and Iowa wins), they won't even be top 7 seeds in the Big Ten Tourney.

Oladipo yes, Zeller, meh.

And 25-5 in this Big Ten is really damn impressive. While they should've won a couple of those 5, they also won @ OSU and @ MSU
