I'm not saying he will, but who else on the roster could?

A lot of guys are big goofs at age 19. Not that they are exactly the same, but a guy like Robert Archibald got a lot better over 4 years, I'm not even sure he played much his first 2.

That's what I thought. Man, I think we give gonzaga all they want.

I'd love to be wrong, but I just think Gonzaga is going to be able to outscore UI. Foul problems could become trouble for Abrams/Egwu in a tough environment too. I list them because they're backups suck and UI needs them.

egwu is the one that sucks

He's a big man who's not even halfway through his sophomore year, he's got a lot of time. He needs to get to the foul line more and be more physical rebounding, but he's certainly taking a back seat to a Senior class playing very well right now (Griffey, Paul, Richardson...even McLaurin a bit maybe). Other than Paul he's still the only player on the team that has a shot at the NBA.

Big guys take longer to develop, you know this. He will be fine.

I like Egwu's potential and I think he's going to be fine eventually, but I don't understand how in the hell a guy his size gets stuffed as often as he does.

It's usually guards from behind. It happens because he's not very aware of his surroundings. That comes with experience. There is also the fact he isn't an elite level athlete. Was he with his shooting touch he'd have been a five star.

Was he a guy who only started playing at Age 15 or so?

Yep. I think he has a chance to really develop, but I kind of wished we would have red shirted him last year.

Hammons from Purdue has awareness issues as well. Multiple times I've seen much smaller guys come up and just take the ball out of his hands or smack it out when he's making moves in the paint. Other than that I've been really pumped watching him play. 9 points and 6 boards as a true freshman is great production for a big man. I'm looking forward to seeing him in B1G play.

I thought iowa state might be decent since they hung with cincy and unlv, but they are getting destroyed by iowa, who is TERRIBLE.

[expletive] YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I forgot how easy it was to hate iowa fans what with them being [expletive] terrible at everything for so long.

Iowa is not terrible. Not NCAA good, but they're far from terrible.

does iowa have like 11 ugly white guys or is it just the same 3 or 4 I keep seeing?

No there are a lot of different ugly white guys. Much like ISU doesn't just have a couple of guys who were hated in their program and caused problems. abuck is just doing his thing.

Not sure why you'd say they're not NCAA good. They might not be but it's far from a sure thing. They went 8-10 in the Big Ten last year. This year 9-9 has a decent shot at getting them in, 10-8 and they're in. The Big Ten is better but they're better too.

If I had to predict Iowa's conference record, I'd say 8-10 again, +/- 1.

I think 10-8 would be a best case.

Pretty much what I have thought all year. Now that they beat Iowa State I think 10-8 puts them on the bubble though they have to beat Northern Iowa for that Big Ten record to have them dancing for sure.

All I was saying was what I've maintained since last summer, they're a bubble team. Not necessarily here, but I read many fans saying 8 or 9 B1G wins, and 20 overall gets them in the dance, it doesn't. Their OOC schedule sucks, they play four decent, and no really good, teams. One thing they can say, so far, is that they don't have a bad loss like a Campbell or South Dakota that can come back and hurt them come March.

I think there's a decent chance they can make the tourney this year, but it's far from a given, that's all I was alluding to.

Heading to the Wisconsin-Marquette game today. Should be a close game, though neither teams are that good this year. Excited to see Sam Dekker in person.

My favorite CBB bettor on today's UI/Zags game:

Question: How will Illinois compete with the Zag’s front-court? (@Thekillabeejc)

Gonzaga’s defense on the interior is exceptional, and all of their bigs can step out and defend the perimeter which is the key here. This is really a night-mare match-up for Illinois, and probably one of their toughest games in terms of match-ups and scheme they’ll see all year, and I think that’s saying a lot considering they play in a loaded B-10. You’re going to get the same story with Illinois offensively – they’ll shoot more three’s than two’s, and probably a good chance that holds true here. Just not sure this is the best spot for them to fall traveling west. This technically isn’t their first true road game on the season as they did play at Hawaii earlier in the year, but I’m treating it is their first as they had a decent size following to the Islands. Tough game for the Illini, here. They’ve beaten Gonzaga each of the last two seasons but the wins are a bit misleading. Zaga’s Sacre was in foul trouble in last year’s meeting which forced Few to move to a zone defense to defend Leonard in the paint and they still couldn’t stop him. Two years ago, Illinois shot better than 50% from the three-point line. Double revenge, and a much better interior presence that can defend the perimeter are the keys here. I’m staying away though. Gonzaga’s strength (interior defense) doesn’t get put to work here.

10-8 in this year's league will get in any Big Ten team with the exception of PSU/Nebraska and maybe Purdue depending on their ND/WVU games.

What do you mean by 2 "real" players? ISU has Ejim, Gibson and Niang all coming back next year. We're also red-shirting a freshman this year who should contribute next year as well. And Fred has two freshman guards coming in who might start. They'll be young next year but not awful.
