.@RahmEmanuel says flat no to Cubs' request to do around the clock construction to make up for lost time at Wrigley Field.

Yeah...this might have not been the best time to ask him for that.

He's about to lose the election.

Actually probably not but he already got forced into a run-off on April 7th and a new poll is showing a dead heat between him and his challenger. In the end he'll probably win, but it seems to be a lot closer then most would think.

[pet peeve below]

both of the recent polls showed emmanuel ahead by about 4 points, so if the polling were done in a scientifically-sound manner, it's just as likely that he's ahead by 8 points than it is that the candidates are in a "dead heat."

anyway, go cubs and please finish your construction soon.

http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2015/03/05/the-bernstein-brief-mystery-lies-underground-in-wrigley-field-renovation/

Please stop talking about this when you don't know anything about it, Bernstein.

The other day, on the radio, he was asking the Tribune guy about how they were going to dig up left field for the clubhouse (I'm not even sure how old that prospective idea is at this point...5 years?)...worst part was that the Tribune guy who he was talking to didn't dispute it at all (and might not have even known better).

Also, I'm pretty sure that work on the clubhouse will be going on all season, not waiting until the offseason, because it's in the triangle plaza and Theo has even mentioned that they're hoping/planning to have it done enough by fall/winter to show the players and possible FAs, sort of the way they toured the ST facility in 2013 (I think on a trip to play Arizona).

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-league-stew/cubs-seriously-considered-moving-2015-home-games-to-milwaukee-044001447.html

That complications could easily arise during the unpredictable winter months in Chicago that would delay progress and leave them unprepared. And it was with that in mind that the Cubs seriously considered a contingency plan that would have seen them move all 81 of their scheduled home games in 2015 to Miller Park.

“We did, really with the help of the Brewers, we did an extensive amount of work looking at going up there,” Kenney said in an interview with the Mully and Hanley Show on Wednesday morning. “They hosted us. We talked about the logistics of playing a full season there to try to truncate our work to two-and-half to three years instead of four years. And ultimately, sitting down with the entire team — ticket sales, operations, etc. — we just thought it was too much displacement to move our fans that far.”

I thought the idea of moving elsewhere for a season wasn't anything more than idle speculation. Damn.

Why not work with the White Sox? Is Reinsdorf too much of a raging [expletive]?

Yep. Not sure why it's blowing up now.

Why not work with the White Sox? Is Reinsdorf too much of a raging [expletive]?

Reinsdorf sucks, plus Miller has a roof that will eliminate rain outs which would be impossible to make-up with 162 home games all in the same season. Plus, I would not be surprised if gate revenues would be likely higher from Miller rather than Reinsdorf's stadium.

Good point with the rainouts. Though, I wonder if higher % of revenue of a smaller crowd in Miller would still be more than a lower % of a larger crowd at Comiskey?

Yeah...it's been said before but a lot of the north suburban cubs fans could very easily get to miller park...probably more easily than wrigley

Who said it was "crazy?" I just didn't remember anything indicating the Cubs had actually looked into it or talked to the Brewers, that's all.

Beginning and ending with exclamations of whoa and damn suggests you thought it was pretty crazy.

For [expletive]'s sake, jersey. You're one weird dude.

hahahaha

yeah, only a weird dude would read exclamations like that and think the person who wrote them was surprised by something they did not think would or had occurred.

Yes, I was mildly surprised that something I thought had just been speculated about was actually pursued by the Cubs. I know now to not used such raging hyperbole around you in the future.

For a whole season I doubt it. A lot of fans in the northern suburbs can make it to Miller in an hour or less but for an entire season there is no way they would reach the revenue at the Cell. Could they even get 5K Cub fans to buy season tickets at Miller park?

There are a lot of Cubs fans in Southeast Wisconsin and the far north suburbs of Chicago. Miller Park is 50%+ Cubs fans when the Cubs are good and they're in town.

Sure, but that's for 3-4 games at a time a few times a year, not 81 games.

Yea there have to be more Cubs fans working downtown where the Cell commute would be better on a day game rather than someone just at home or working in the north burbs.

Well they decided not to do Milwaukee so it wasn't the best decision but there would be a decent turnout. Plus 9 of the 81 games are against the Brewers and those would obviously sell out.

edit: 9, not 10 of 81
