Construction projects, lol...

Pretty sure they bailed on the outfield lights for this year...that was supposed to be done originally. Haven't heard any talk or seen any sign since and it was removed from Phase 1 on the website, IIRC.

Funny thing is, the original plan was 5 years...then they said they were going to accelerate it to make up for the wasted year w/the rooftop crap and that it was going to cost more money to accelerate. Now they're taking the original 5 years on the accelerated plan that they are presumably paying more for.

So Deadspin decided to throw up a nice (and in my opinion incredibly dumb) doom and gloom article about Wrigley. First paragraph in...

This off-season marked the start of a long, expansive, expensive, and arguably unnecessary renovation project at Wrigley Field, which was supposed to be completed over the course of four off-seasons and leave the stadium fully operational during the summer. According to Cubs chairman Tom Ricketts, things aren't exactly going as planned.

Sorry, what?

So I walked by Wrigley a little while ago..saw a guy from DAKtronics watching the steel work on the video board. Asked him when the video panels were going up. Said it was supposed to be a week ago but it'll be Tuesday.

Does anyone else think the new construction will have a positive affect with the wind blowing in? Balls that are hit hard and kept below board level may have a better chance of getting out than in previous years.

Awesome...I was wondering when that might start going up.

Wrigley rooftop owner indicted, accused of hiding money from Cubs & the city http://dnain.fo/1xFeolu

WRIGLEYVILLE — The owner of a rooftop club behind Wrigley Field's bleachers has been indicted for withholding money from the team, the city, the county and the state, federal officials announced Friday.

R. Marc Hamid was named in the indictment. He is the owner of Skybox on Sheffield, a rooftop club behind the right field bleachers. He's accused of underreporting revenue figures from 2008 to 2011 by more than $1.5 million.

More details to come.

So is this basically a result of him trying to doctor their books for their own lawsuit against the Cubs?

If so, that is some sweet, sweet justice.

I imagine he was doctoring them so he would have to pay less money on whatever cut the Cubs took(16%?)

That makes more sense but is less fun.

That is one of the two rooftops in the suit, though.

Amazing. Should have sold your building before the Cubs lawyers found your dirt.

This is getting ugly and I love it.

2008 to 2011

Ha, that's while things were going really good. Could it be they got caught as a result of opening up their books (as part of the lawsuit)?

Brett said this was the guy who got sued by banks a few years back for defaulting on his loans. So I'd assume that's when the books were opened up.

Would be curious to see if this could be used to convince him to sell to the Ricketts.

Is there a chance he might be forced to sell given this?

I would imagine the possible fines/forfeitures/etc and potential costs of pending litigation could make the idea a more palatable one.
