How do you figure?

Because no one is really getting what they want, he's flying directly in the face of mayor, and a bunch of challengers to his seat are popping up already.

Well he's, presumably, doing everything he can to carry out the best interest of the majority of his constituents by being a huge ass about everything and not just laying over and giving Wrigley/city what they want and is getting some of what he/the people whom elected him want. I doubt he'd be doing this if he felt it wasn't what the majority of his constituents wanted and thus [expletive] himself next election. He's a career Politician.

Why would anyone even move close to Wrigley if they didn't WANT to live close to Wrigley? His arguments are ridiculous. Is there any actual legitimate public outcry over what the Cubs are trying to do from Wrigleyville residents, besides rooftop owners and Tunney?

I'm sure there's outcry from a group of residents. Heck, in Lincoln Park, people are up in arms about putting a Walgreens on Armitage. People will complain about anything.

Just a vocal minority.

Brett nails it:

In my most head-tilting, incredulous voice: you want to kill a $500 million, privately-funded development project for your ward because of a pedestrian bridge? Really? You want to expend political capital fighting a widely popular $500 million, privately-funded development project for your ward because of a hotel entrance? Seriously? You want to actively solicit other aldermen to join you in opposing the Mayor on a $500 million, privately-funded development project that looks like a major victory for the Mayor because of the potential of a couple more signs inside a ballpark? For real?

Tunney: "I have now arrived at the point where I have no more objections" to the Cubs project.

Applause from the crowd after Tunney's statements. Sharp contrast to how he sounded last week.

lol

Well, that's for several reasons. I'm down the street from there and the initial outcry was over the loss of the old Baptist church it replaced. The the main issue was them being able to sell liquor, and when they would be. Me, I can't wait until it opens up. I only have [expletive] Treasure Islands and 7-11's around me, so having an option like that between my L stop and home is awesome.

 The comments at the bottom of the article. It's hilarious. One person suggesting they should move to the burbs because it takes too long for them to get to Wrigley. Who do these people think they are?

I want them to move to the burbs just to shove it up Tunney and the rooftop owner's [expletive].

Then they can do what they want to the stadium without [expletive] around with his dumb [expletive].

I get the Tunney hatred. At least that's a good reason for not keeping them in Wrigleyville anymore. It's so stupid how people who live in that neighborhood don't realize that the Cubs drive that neighborhood to make it what it is. All of his constituents who have complained should just move elsewhere if they don't like some of these ideas. This renovations so overdue -- it's almost embarrassing that a ballpark as old as Wrigley hasn't had a major renovation in so long.

On Thursday after the Cubs agreed to work on the Patterson concerns, Tunney told the Plan Commission he had "no objections" to the plan, though he would continue to seek some adjustments.

Later Thursday, however, Tunney sent an email to his 49 colleagues that read, "There are still unresolved issues that we need to address before the package receives my support at the Zoning Committee on Tuesday."

Some aldermen said Friday they were confused by the turn of events but were willing to go to bat for Tunney if asked.

Clout Street

11:03 a.m. CDT, July 24, 2013

After months of public posturing and private arm-twisting, Chicago aldermen are poised to sign off today on a Cubs plan to remake Wrigley Field and the surrounding neighborhood following last-minute tweaks to the $500 million project that brought on board a key alderman who had opposed it.

All sides will be able to claim some measure of victory.

Wrigleyville Ald. Tom Tunney got the team to agree to remove for the time being a pedestrian bridge over Clark Street. Rooftop club owners who have threatened to sue if their lucrative views are blocked saw Mayor Rahm Emanuel announce a 10-year halt to new outfield signs beyond the two already planned. The Cubs win much of the revenue-generating advertising that owners have long coveted. And the mayor can boast of a huge stadium renovation project that doesn't rely on public financial support.

Sounds like Tunny is semi-losing his [expletive] at the Zoning meeting.

Danny Ecker ‏@DannyEcker 11m

Tunney is yelling now. "You gotta make sure you fulfill your promises!" while looking at Cubs' Lufrano.

Danny Ecker ‏@DannyEcker 9m

Tunney: "When these people say on sports talk radio I don't know about jobs... I know about jobs!"

Danny Ecker ‏@DannyEcker 7m

Tunney says he wants "no more head fakes" from Cubs. #wrongsport

Danny Ecker ‏@DannyEcker 5m

This is an epic rant. Tunney says he is "totally off script" now

Guy kinda comes off as mildly unstable.

Who is the Lufrano from the Cubs that's mentioned in the first tweet? Is he one of the lawyers/real estate guys heading it on the Cubs end? Never heard that name before.

Hilarious. I didnt think there was much chance of Tunney losing his position because of this until the last few days. Dude is losing it.

I listened to part of his rant on the radio. It was the weirdest thing. He was yelling for no reason and kept repeating that he was going to stay up the Cubs' butts to make sure they did everything they promised. Said it over and over.

What a loon. Can you imagine the stuff Cuban would be saying/doing if he was allowed to own the team and Tunney was pulling this?
