Of course it's not exactly like the value dates, but it is similar in that people who ordinarily wouldn't get a chance to see the games are brought into the audience. The value dates were for many years the only shot fans had at getting into the park for cheap. Not so much now that demand has turned to mush.

I will always side with the cheap jackass in the boonies with bunny ears.

I just want whatever they go with to be available further downstate. Right now, I'm screwed on WCIU games, but it's rare enough that it's mildly tolerable. But if I lost all the WGN games too, I'd be pretty grouchy.

No, I have Directv in central Illinois. I'm not in the boonies (Is Bloomington the boonies?). Occasionally there's a local station that will simulcast the WCIU games, but it's a crapshoot.

Who can't WGN on their TV but can get them on WICU?

The same games that air on WCIU are carried by stations in Iowa and downstate Illinois.

Look two posts above yours.

Only the wackos with rabbit ears are benefiting by getting the few games that they'll get out of that mess. The rest of the people, like Brandon, are getting screwed out of the games that don't show up on a channel.

There is no perfect solution so long as the ridiculous blackout policies remain in effect.

If someone is signed up for YES on the cable package are they subject to blackouts? If not, then isn't that the perfect solution?

They are still subject to blackouts.

If the Yankees are being carried as a "national" game, right?

I think you would need to have Extra Innings (or MLB.tv) to watch their games outside of their area even if you get the YES network.

Correct, the same applies to any pro sports team. If you're out of market you have to get the out of market package.

Oh hey guys, first update in a month! What will this be about? Possibly some construction timelines for the offseason? Maybe some cool new renderings with the City Council approved changes worked in?

Nope, its Tom Tunney opposing another part of the renovation plans!

Ald. Tom Tunney (44th) kept his promise to be “up (the) butt” of the Chicago Cubs as they move forward with their City Council-approved plan to renovate Wrigley Field, said he opposed a proposal to move the right field wall of the Friendly Confines back eight feet to accommodate a 650-square foot sign in right field that wouldn’t obstruct rooftop owners’ views of the field and create a party deck inside the ballpark.

Tunney cited public safety issues for drawing his latest line in the sand. Public safety was the same reason Tunney put the kibosh over a pedestrian bridge over Clark Street connecting Wrigley Field to a boutique hotel that’s part of the Cubs’ renovation plan.

“I’ve been opposed to liquor over a public street.… I have not been supportive of decks over any street — Patterson, Clark and/or Sheffield,” said Tunney, whose ward includes Wrigley Field.

“Initial reactions to my office have been opposed. The community has been opposed to bridges over everything.”

The problem with Tunney’s latest objection is that he openly admits he may not be able to stop the Cubs from erecting the static sign in right field that’s at the center of the dispute. If the plans for the deck are scrapped, the Cubs can still install the sign at their leisure, as team spokesman Julian Green reiterated to the Sun-Times. If that happens, it could trigger a lawsuit from the rooftop club owners for blocking their view of the field, and the Cubs have been looking at ways of appeasing them, Tunney and others in the community concerned about the club’s renovation plan.

Green reminded Tunney the right field deck, which would take out a lane of parking on and hang over Sheffield, was the rooftop owners’ idea.

“We thought this could be a potential solve for [killing] the bridge over Clark Street. If there’s no support for that idea, then we’re back to Square One.”

Geez, he's whining about something that was the rooftop owners' idea?

I mean, he knows the sidewalk is under the bleachers now, right? Can we confirm that Tunney has been to Wrigley field before?

while i don't think it would be good for the club or the city, the spiteful part of me just wants the cubs to say "[expletive] it" and go build a stadium out in schaumburg or whatever. see how happy tom tunney's constituents are when his dumb ass obstruction drives away tens of millions of dollars from the local economy.

Agreed and they'd also see their property values plummet. Also is he not aware no stadiums sell glass bottles anymore? Everything is plastic, still I guess he has the trash argument but, the few bottles/cups that would fall would be plastic and much safer/easier to clean up. Also just put up high railings/plexiglass that makes it nearly impossible to get stuff to fall onto the street.

Also the fact that this "safety hazard" exists in full right now and yet we somehow don't hear about cars ducking a barrage of beer bottles during games.
