this is embarrassing.

I was just working on writing an article for the front page and decided on a whim to check out the Pirates infield defense metrics the last few years. In the least shocking development of all time, when he was pitching in front of a crappy infield Maholm's ERA went up.

I'll post the article tomorrow. Gotta figure out a couple stupid formatting things but it's too late for that now. Suffice to say I like the move, pending absurd contract details.

Breaking news; Chicago Cubs sign LHP Paul Maholm to a 1 yr 4.25 million deal with club opt 6,5 for 2013. 500k B out

Wow. If that's it, great freaking deal. I approve.

that's a bargain. he could easily be worth more than $4.25m this year, and that's a reasonable option as well. as long as he stays healthy he should benefit the team and possibly have some trade value around the deadline or next offseason. excellent signing.

I need about 200 more mentions before I actively root against him.

Where was God on that 2 run double, Jesus boy!?

It feels like half of the baseball player Twitter accounts I've seen have a sub-header along the lines of "Walking with Jesus!"

Where are they all walking to, anyway?

They haven't even given a mediocre-horrible lefty reliever a bloated contract yet!

I could see making fun of them for it if it was something like, "I'm an awesome Christian and you're going to hell if you're not", but I don't understand mocking people for stuff like that.

Wait - where's the no trade clause? Where's the player option? This is disappointing.

I like it. I just wish that it was a vesting option and that there were 2 of them just so that if he were to end up a solid mid rotation pitcher or better we keep under control when we're more likely to contend.

Why would a vesting option be better than a club option?

Is WSR a joke account, or is all of this real?

Enough.

I'm very happy and greatly relieved we didn't go the Edwin Jackson/Mark Buerhle route to adding pitching this offseason. Seems like Hoyer had pretty good results in San Diego taking flyers on cheap pitching with 2010 Garland and 2011 Harang, though I'm sure the PetCo factor was a part of that.

Even without the flyers, not giving Edwin Jackson or Buerhle the contracts they'd want is an excellent idea. Those are NOT the guys you overpay for.

Also, Maholm is a lot easier to get the hang of than Buerhle, so there's that.

Did we just sign John Grabow for 4.25? No? We got a league average, possibly a tad better starter for that price? Huh, not sure what to say........Oh well, how about our FO is just pretty damn cool.
