PSD insider says he's pretty sure corresponding move is taking Bianchi off the 40 man.

I keep seeing this guy referenced... what is PSD?

a poster there named Marlin has called various Cubs moves in the past. He rarely shows up, but when he does whatever he posts seems to be legit info.

Did he mention anything regarding the talks with Detroit?

Nah, thhe last he said on that was about a week ago. Some Detroit fan said giving up Turner was too much for Garza and Marlin said he'd be pissed then, because if Detroit gets him it's Turner and more.

If true, I love that Thoyer is driving a hard bargain here. We don't NEED to trade Garza, and his value is likely to be just as high (if not higher) come July.

By a process of elimination, this Marlin guy was giving out info during the Hendry run and he still is now. My guess is he knows Bush or Wilken, since they're both still around.

He must be stellar defensively because I can't think of another reason he was on it to begin with.

I saw Bianchi last year at Northwest Arkansas and he is awesome defensively IMO at 2B. He can play SS as well (not everyday, but decent enough if your SS was injured for a short time). Honestly I don't think I've ever seen a better defensive 2B (whether that's in person or on TV- that I've seen several times or more) than him. With Theo and Hoyer looking at getting better defensively, I can see why they claimed him. On the flip side though, his ceiling is probably what Barney is right now offensively (or could be worse) with slightly better defense and SBs. Barney already shown us what he can do in the majors so I thought it was kinda pointless to claim Bianchi as I figured nobody else would claim him and Cubs could get after he clear waivers.

Brewers claim INF Jeff Bianchi off waivers from #Cubs. That clears 40-man spot for Maholm

Didn't see that coming. I'm wondering if they tried to trade Baker or Maine before they finally waived him thinking that he'd be the best bet to make it through unclaimed.

Not surprised by Bianchi being let loose. It was the most obvious move to make and a fairly easy guess. I did mildly think that they might cut Corpas first, but eh. It's not like he was substantially more valuable than, say, Edgar Gonzalez, and Bianchi likely would've been ticketed for AAA. If we really need an emergency MI, we can call up an Edgar Gonzalez type during the season.

Wouldn't be surprised if another of the signings that got people in an uproar (Corpas perhaps - well, not uproar, but there was more than enough posts on a tiny signing like Corpas) was released to make room for Kerry when he signs.

With us giving him incentives to where he can make up to 2 mill or so, I doubt it's him that'll be the cut. Same with Sonnanstine. I could see a small trade or us cutting Mateo or Maine, maybe Gaub.

Marlin was right. His insider status is legit.

Yeah, he's definitely legit. Only reason I scour through things over there is to see if he's popped in with anything. Evidently, he's gotten lots of stuff right. Contract details, prospects coming over in trades, draft picks being made, who we're signing as far as overslots go, he's the real deal.
