So 5 minutes after the Marlins signed Buerhrle, they were on the phone offering Wilson a 6 year deal. Man, have to admit I'm envious. They went hard after Pujols, are now linked to Prince and already have signed Reyes and Buehrle.

What's this have to do with anything? Other than irrationally making Cubs fans scared of signing good free agents?

 

Pure frustration. What I do not understand is if Ricketts gave Theo an open checkbook, why is he not making a serious play for either Pujols or Fielder? We have a glaring hole there. These guys help now and in the future.

What makes you think he isn't? (More in regards to Fielder...as for Pujols, you can see where a 10 year deal might not be in the best interest)

I won't be disappointed if someone else gives them 8-10 year deals. If someone gives Fielder a five year deal and he accepts, sure. But I won't fault Jed/Theo for not being stupid.

Yes. it's on the other side of the hotel. But that place is so big you might not have seen it. If you do, you will love it. Great food and drinks and lots of the execs hang there.

If for some reason we don't end up with Pujols or Fielder, any interest in Lee at 1B? He's always hit really well at Wrigley. He's only under contract through 2012 and is owed $18.5mil.

Definitely getting old, but he was 4.6 WAR last season per B-R. Just another option that's out there.

At a minimum, they burn something like $2 million cutting him after his arbitration award. More likely, they just get stuck with him for one year at like $12 million that they had planned on spending elsewhere.
