Let's get real. The Bears are claiming Orton not because they expect him to actually play ahead of Hanie at all but they are just trying to re-capture the magic of the neck beard.

I'd very much like to stop hearing that Orton can't throw. It's true he's not the greatest, and his release is probably slow. He's not all that mobile.

But the man can throw the football.

Slow release + lead feet + Bears offensive line = not good.

Orton was performing at just about replacement level this year before his benching. I'd rather see if Hanie can do the same while also being mobile.

Orton is better than every other option out there, not sure why some are against it.

Same reason why the backup QB is often the most popular player on the team. Orton is a known commodity. There's always a chance the Caleb Hanie might turn out to be the next Tom Brady. Even if it is a miniscule chance.

Brad Biggs brings up a good point. Bears might not claim Orton because the the teams after them, GB and SF will probably not claim him.

It means when he releases the ball, it has plenty on it. WTF do you think it's supposed to mean, psycho?

Orton's probably in the best drinking shape of his career. He's been training at altitude for 2.5 seasons.

Right, but you sign Orton as a backup in the off chance that Hanie is not Tom Brady.

I think with the 3 step drop, he'd be fine. Maybe not this week vs. Oak but other than that he'd be ok. Even though Cutler has a much quicker release and is more active, one of the bigger changes was that he wasn't holding onto the ball as long.

Over the options... Garrard, Bulger, Edwards, etc. and Hanie as the in-house option, once Orton can grasp the watered down version of the offense, he's probably the best option, IMO.

What sport do we borrow analogies from when talking about football? With the whole Theo fiasco, it was always "They're on the 5 yard line to finish this deal. Wait, there was a holding call."

With football, do we say "Runners on 1st and 3rd with no outs, bottom of the 9th. Down by 1" or is there some other sport that works better?

It absolutely does not have plenty on it. He's fine throwing quick slants, but that is about it.

it just sounds like a useless, untrue platitude some moron talk radio host would say. it's literally a meaningless statement. "he's slow, he can't run, he's half-[expletive]. but the man loves him some frosted mini-wheats"

The ridiculously long state of limbo during the compensation negotiations.
