Sources: Cutler broken thumb; likely out rest of reg season

B&B just said that the Dallas claim was to block the Bears from getting him.

Now, I can see Jerry Jones throwing away 2.5 million in this instance, but I would have been floored if Green Bay threw that money away. I know they're an NFL franchise, but 2.5 million dollars a lot of cheddar (pun intended).

Not to mention Dallas would be attempting to block actual competition for a playoff spot and not just spite for a rival

Wait, we're really pretending that wasn't just radio meatballin'?

That's funny.

PFT and the Fort Worth Star Telegram amongst others are also reporting this... so google tells me.... there are 727 articles...

Plus B&B are sort of the anti-meatballs of radio. I think they invented the term meatball...

They also talk authoritatively about things they don't have a clue about sometimes... as they did today when trying to explain the waiver process and while called out by texters/emailers every time they said something wrong.

Right; even the least meatball-y radio show is still meatball central.

The Cowboys might have been looking to block the Bears in a kill two birds with one stone kinda deal, but their main issue in looking for someone like Orton is the concerns over Kitna's back health. The idea that their main goal in claiming Orton was to try and trip up the Bears is silly.

Listening to the guys here in Dallas, consensus is the claim was made because there is serious concerns about Kitna's back injury. Someone mentioned it may have been to block the Bears, but no one credible is buying that theory.

A quote from Cutler just scrolled by the bottom of my ESPN saying that he could be done for the season. It then went on to say he had three screws and two pins inserted into his thumb.

Jeff Dickerson was just on ESPN 1000 and addressed the Cutler situation. While what Cutler said was true, at this point they don't believe Cutler will be done for the season. Internally he is told Cutler expects to be back too. But obviously it all depends on how it heals. The plan is still Jan 1 against Minnesota, with an outside shot at XMas day against the douchebags of Green Bay.

I don't know why ESPN is running with this (other than to generate angst). We already knew Cutler 'could be' out for the year, if it doesn't heal properly, etc. He also 'could be' back by the end of the regular season.

Yeah, the way he phrased it was in-line with what we've heard all along, he could be back in a few weeks, or his season could be over. He has to be patient and we don't know yet. But every took the "could be over" portion and ran that as the headline.

also, i think what happened was he mentioned that the pins could come out in up to 10 weeks, and espn ignored the fact that he stated he could play with the pins in there. he said something like, the pins could come out in 3 to 10 weeks, whether i play or not."

McNabb to be released. Sign him?

as an emergency 3rd QB? I don't see how he could be of much use, although maybe it wouldn't hurt.

I would guess it would be instead of McCown.

But McCown was signed because he knows the offense, McNabb has been in a much different style (and been horrible doing it).

PFT says that the Texans aren't interested in McNabb...

With Houston out of the mix, the Bears are the only logical suitor for McNabb as a starter. (Unless the Colts actually try to improve their team.) The Bears could potentially claim him or sign him after he clears waivers. Perhaps the Cowboys could want McNabb as a backup.

There is no indication yet that the Bears have interest, but ESPN’s Adam Schefter suggested on air that McNabb is interested in Chicago. It wouldn’t be a shock if McNabb received word the Bears were interested before he requested his release.

Pretty sure I'd rather play Enderle than McNabb. I'd have to think long and hard if I had to choose between McNabb and Todd Collins.

I don't think he can do much but McNabb is clearly a better option than Collins and probably better than Enderle.

Did you see McNabb play this year? At least Emberle gives you a possibility of not every pass ending up near his receivers toes. The Collins comment was hyperbole but not by a lot.

he completed 60% of his passes. He's always missed low
