**disclaimer** very little research went into the following statement

I believe only two of those guys were acquired after Epstein was hired to be the GM (Papelbon and Pedroia).

That's why I said development.

Are you listening to it? I'd rather you be ever so polite and provide a synopsis on here :D

Finally able to wind down and catch up on some news, and I find 12 new pages of this thread. It's gonna be a good night.

And to whoever posted that pic of Hoystein a couple pages ago, I'd appreciate spoiler tags and a NSFW warning next time.

Been reading the thread all day just haven't posted largely cause Id just echo pretty much everything already said here. It's good to have him under contract finally. It's nice to see some positive news on the Cubs for a change. Hopefully they can swing a couple trades here near the deadline and build up the system even more. Soler is an important piece, very relieved to see it happen finally.

So how long before we get an en flux of Soler related new posters and ghost accounts?

Soler Power

Cirque De Soler

Soler Asylum

Soler Rebel

Soler Eclipse

Han Soler

Damn, Han Soler would be awesome had I not just swapped out. Still willing to do so if the powers that be are listening.

9 years...?!?!?

You figure he'll be in the minors for probably 3 years, and then 6 years of service time before he hits the market. He'll get another chance at 29. If he pans out, we've got him under control very cheaply for nearly a decade. Even if he busts, it's not a huge loss. It's a good deal, IMO.

If Soler is anything but a bust, he'll probably make more than 30 million due to his opt out clauses. We shouldn't get in the habit of thinking we have him locked up cheap for most of his prime, because we really don't.

Players ares till cheap during their arbitration years. Unless you don't think Garza for $15.45 million the last two years wasn't cheap.

Not the point.

Well, at least here's a pic i've never seen of him before from Bruce's article.

Love to read the article, just hate that fact you have to set up an account to read it. I miss Bruce's writing. :( I wonder if the change has been successful for the Daily Herald?

Great to see Theo/Jed outbid everyone for Soler. Scouting reports seem very promising.

Time to pretend to be greedy, I guess. But there are still 2 more Cuban pitchers now eligible to be signed that would both probably slot somewhere inside our top 30. Go get them too now fellas.

Hmmm...really? I don't have any account and can read it just fine. I remember the paywall thing awhile ago, but it isn't applying to this article at least (for me).

Thought I just had: what happens if Soler makes it to the big leagues fast enough to become arbitration eligible so that his arbitration years are over before the 9 years is up? I can't imagine that we'd just let him be arbitration eligible for 5 years if that were the case, but I'm not sure his salary can revert to 3 million in year 8-9 in that case either.

Article loads fine, but then there is a big box that blocks the text and tells me to log in.

I'd assume he becomes a free agent. Assuming this is year 1, Soler would have to be in the big leagues for good after 1.25-1.5 minor league seasons. I doubt it's a problem.

Yeah, if he's able to opt out of the deal for arbitration reasons, then he's opted out and presumably would be just like any other free agent to be.

Wesley Snipes? Maybe I'll just call him Blade.

He looks nothing like Wesley Snipes and is about 9" taller. Unless you think.....nevermind.

He was confused by that Face Off remake starring Wesley Snipes and the guy who played Bubba in Forrest Gump.
