Remember that month that Hee Seop Choi had after we traded him away for Lee? Or that one month where Chris Shelton had that made it so I could easily recall his name 6 years later?

Look, obviously it's a tiny sample size, but let's not pretend a ton of people here weren't drooling over this guy. Hell, I don't care if someone prefers Soler (I do myself); I still view it as a failure right now that they didn't pick up both.

I remember at the start of the off-season that most people on the board were excited because we had a great shot at signing Pujols. That didn't happen, but it was okay because we would sign Fielder and the Cubans. That didn't happen, but we still had the Cubans. Then we didn't sign Cespedes, but still some of the board was okay with it because, hey, we can still get Soler! The complacency with which people treat free agency, no matter what happens, is astounding.

The thing that disappoints me about Cespedes is that it wasn't like he just signed with the Marlins because Miami's large Cuban population provided a comfort zone. Supposedly he actually wanted to join the Cubs and gave us every chance to sign him but we couldnt match Oaklands (admittely high) offer. I can understand the reasoning, but we spent so much time scouting the guy and obviously wanted him. If he does turn into a star, its gonna be quite frustrating for Cubs fans.

Think about how much more fun the last 2 games would have been with Cespedes belting HRs into the wind. We might still be 0-2 but we'd have something exciting to talk about

I am not the least bit worried with our offense, studs like DeJesus, Lahair and Stewart make up for the free agents we passed on. Really, who cares that he has 3 home runs and the entire Cubs team has 0.

Can I be the guy who says, "yeah, but what would we do with Brett Jackson?"

Play him or Cespedes in either RF or LF. DeJesus is a nice player, but I wouldn't think twice about benching/trading either he or Soriano in order to eventually get both Cespedes and BJax in the lineup.

The wind wasn't blowing in yesterday.

That's crazy talk. Where would Reed Johnson play?

Fielder has two knocks. So happy we passed on these guys.

I don't care if Fielder hits 50 this year, that contract was horrible and I'm thrilled the Cubs aren't stuck paying it.

Why is it every player we don't sign we are happy because it's a bad contract?

Other than Fielder/Pujols, who is that being said about?
