85 year old people can't take this kind of stress. I'm officially selecting Joe Paterno in the first round of the 2012 dead pool.

i always assumed that he would kick the bucket while coaching or, if he retired, die within a year of retirement. since he's supposed to be a prosecution witness hopefully they get his statement before he dies.

I already said he won't make it to 86. Get in line.

the term coaching should always be written as "coaching" when referring to JoePa these days. If you aren't wearing a headset on the sidelines you aren't coaching a football game.

so if you run practice and coach the kids all week but don't call the plays you're not coaching?

When's the last time JoePa legitimately ran a practice?

his current leg/hip injury was because he got hit during a practice.

maybe he's doing nothing, but maybe he's coaching during the week, game planning, etc. I have no idea. But the fact is, he's NEVER worn a headset or held a play list, but no one questioned whether he was coaching until he became and old man

and he's been an old man for a long time. The headset comment doesn't really matter, but everybody knows joepa doesn't coach.

I just can't believe sandusky was able to get away with this for so long. I can maybe buy that one assistant over the course of 15 years, or whatever, stumbled onto this and then was convinced to keep it quiet. BUT FIFTEEN YEARS? How no one blew the whistle on this guy is amazing. He must be pretty Keen to get away with it for that long.

Everyone is talking about JoePa's death, but what about Penn State. They are basically going to be SMU after this. What coach or recruit is gonna want to go anywhere near that school the next few years?

i recently saw a video about swim coaches who were able to get away with molesting kids for decades. one guy would stay in town until people started asking questions about him, then take off and go to a new town on the west coast. nobody called his previous employers and USA swimming actually certified him as a coach a few years ago, failing to do any kind of background check besides checking with law enforcement and finding that he had no criminal convictions.

there are a lot of reasons that people can get away with it for a long time - in this case it appears to be him taking advantage of kids in broken or poorly-run homes, parents permitting their children to be in a compromising situation with an older man they don't know well, an ineffective investigation in 1998 (with numerous parties not being informed that he was being investigated), a janitor witnessing an assault but not reporting it, several people in knowledge of an assault in 2002 with nobody ultimately reporting it to police, and children obviously embarrassed or uncomfortable about reporting the incidents to their parents or the authorities.

and then i think a lot of it goes back to the person being "respected within the community," "a faithfully married man," etc., and people just refuse to believe that someone with such a respectable and upstanding exterior could be doing something like this. people just have this idea that all pedophiles are single lonely men in their 40s with a creepy mustache driving around a windowless van.

considering he admitted to it a decade ago to one of the mothers it's not so much that he got away with it. I think penn state canned him and pushed it under the rug, and thanks to their status as the king in town they were able to convince people they handled it and nobody else should worry about it

Paterno is apparently taking questions from outside his window

what a farce. they should've just let the press conference go on as scheduled. it's obvious he has some things he wants to say, and a lot of people have questions for him. so now you're left with people yelling questions at him while he's sitting in the window of his home. great work spanier. that moron should be on the next bus out of town.

I repeat, according to team source, Joe Paterno did not tell his team that he is resigning at today's practice.

so reports indicate that joe paterno told his team, or did not tell his team, that he is resigning.

looks like ben jones quickly deleted that tweet and issued another one saying it was not true, from a source who would know.

Yeah, run him out of town but save the dude that helped protect a child molester. Pedophile State University, may no act of ours bring shame.

Once the authorities found out what Sandusky was doing, why did it take 2-3 years for him to be charged? That's 2-3 years where Sandusky could have been molesting more kids.

Some authorities found out as early as 1998.
