nice dodge of the question.

if you are so concerned with the players and not the immediate success of the program on the football field, you'd support their ability to transfer after the season without sitting out a year.

sure, let them transfer

the players honestly don't matter, this is beyond them or football. this is beyond the rabid fans who want psu to win at any cost. justice for the players is irrelevant.

Yep. Innocent bystanders, but can't be helped. Consider them unintended victims of the larger crime.

I'd be interested to hear how your opinions would change if it was your school that was going through this. I don't think you'd jump so quickly to destroying your athletic department

What's the exact benefit of hurting the players? Spiting JoePa for wanting to finish the season? Does he somehow get more shame for this by being removed now instead of 4 games from now?

It's going to be an embarrassment for Penn State and the Big Ten to hear JoePa chants on Saturday. It's really going to be ugly when PSU goes on the road. You're going to get these reactions to some degree no matter what, but it's best to get the figurehead out IMO

sure i would, because it's not about athletics, either. i couldn't care less about football if the defensive coordinator has been screwing little kids and the coach covered it up.

fwiw, I'm a Notre Dame fan and I believe Brian Kelly and the AD should have been fired for his negilicance in the death of Declan Sullivan.

What is this "hurting the players" nonsense? They play for a kiddie rape enabler. Sandusky hurt the players. Paterno hurt the players. Canning Paterno now does not hurt the players. Forcing them to play more games under the cloud of a supposed head coach who enabled a child rapist to rape kids is more hurtful than taking him away from the situation.

The damage has already been done. You fire Paterno and it hurts in terms of losses it's still on Paterno and it's just completing what has already been done.

In addition to ssr's point, everyone expected JoePa to step down after the year. So letting him retire on his own terms continues the unchecked authority which, in part, contributed to this mess. Also, once an employee comes out and says to the public that his employer cannot fire him, despite his massive error, failing to take on his challenge makes PSU look even worse now and long-term.

Finally, from a legal perspective, every reporter is going to ask about this. JoePa isn't the guy you want fielding questions about alleged victims ("or whatever they are").

Ugh. This is nothing like the ND situation. That's a topic for a different thread.

It would be nice if Delaney would swing his dick around for good for once, rather than simply financial gain. If the B1G can suspend players for personal fouls, they can certainly suspend coaches for whatever it is you want to call this horror.

I'd be pissed off more if this happened at Iowa.

It really isn't at all. That was a sad tragic incident. Obviously it was an isolated event. I enjoyed poking fun at ND fans, which probably means I'm a bad person, but this PSU thing was a decades long cover-up of multiple freaking occurences of child rape and complete negligence by the man in charge, and that man is Joe Paterno. This one, unlike most NCAA run-ins, is a real serious disaster, and it lies at the feet of Paterno.

I'd be ill if this happened at Illinois, I'd probably be fairly out of it this entire week.

or we could just punish the people who covered up kiddie rape

hiding behind the players is exploiting more innocent people.

yes, without punishing 80+ innocent players as collateral damage

THE ONLY JUSTICE IS TO KILL THE INNOCENTS!

BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GODS!

What punishment are the players even really getting in the situation that coaches get fired now? The only thing that comes to mind is losses and the could still win games. I don't see how that's a big deal.

And losses is hardly some sort of guarantee. It's not like Paterno can coach. They stood a decent chance of struggling through their final 3 games anyway.

If they cancelled the games the players would suffer, not so if they can the coach. The coach caused the suffering already.

If you fire Paterno, the players still play. They keep their scholarships. It's not punishing them. That's a stupid argument.
