I don't really want Sandberg to manage the Cubs, but I'd be annoyed if the Cardinals went out and got him. Not that they wouldn't have every right to.

I literally would not be the least bit annoyed. And if the Cubs ended up with Pujols while they got Sandberg, all the better.

Was that his evil twin making mound visits the other night? He's been with the team on and off while that's been going on.

He came back for the playoffs but missed the last month of the season.

People are seriously bummed out down here. The Cardinals honks in the office have been moaning for the last hour. Someone even has KMOX on the radio in their cube.

So lets recap. TLR retires. Albert is most likely going to greener pastures, AND the Cubs got Theo???? This is the best offseason ever!

I assume you're ignoring which team in our division won the World Series this year?

And got right back out of town after the victory. He wasn't at the parade/ceremony yesterday.

That happened during the actual baseball season, not the offseason ;-). Cubs offseason however began a couple of months ago.

I kinda miss him already. We need a good villain. After all, how boring would Batman be if the Joker retired?

The Joker always loses.

Read: "offseason." And yes, I've already erased the WS from my mind.

Between LaRussa and Bobby Cox being gone, I don't know who to hate any more.

Well, that's unexpected.

By whom?

It's been pretty much the scuttlebutt all season long that this would be his last in Saint Louis. According to the article, he gave them the word in August.

This was totally expected.

Well it was news to me, but admittedly I wasn't paying much attention to what might happen to Tony LaRussa after the season.

Most people down here thought 2012 would be his last year in an effort to get to #2 on the alltime wins list.

I wonder if this has anything to do with Albert?

This was my thought. Maybe Albert told him he's not coming back no matter what.

Lots of signs pointing to him leaving, he asked Tony to sign a photo from his rookie year before game 6. That doesn't sound like someone who was planning on being together much longer.

Not sure what other signs there are, but it's possible LaRussa told the team at some point during the season that he was done at the end of the year so Pujols knew Game 6 could have been his last game.

Albert's looking for a long-term deal. Tony was never going to manage past his contract which ended after next season. Coming back to St Louis could never have been predicated on wanting to only play for LaRussa because everyone knew retirement was close. Besides, Tony doesn't manage for any other teams either. One may have an effect on the other, but I'd have a hard time believing anything other than offering him top dollar will have an impact on where Albert plays the rest of his career. Nope, first the team heard of it was after the parade yesterday. Mozeliak said on the radio this morning 5 or 6 people knew about it before then. I guess Pujols could have been one of them.

Pujols may not have been affected by LaRussa's status, but LaRussa may have been affected by Pujols's status.

Yeah, this is how I look at it. Which is why I said somewhere earlier that LaRussa's decision may have been influenced by Pujols' decision (if he's made one).

Unless ownership has gone to Tony and said they don't have the money or won't spend the money necessary to bring Pujols back, this is dubious.
