Good god I'm gonna be pissed if he gets the job.

I'd feel worse for you if it weren't 103 hours since you won your last World Series.

How strange...an organization that won't stand in the way of a person getting a promotion?

odd.

Should the Cubs un-retire Ryno's number and take the flag down if he gets the Cardinal job? ;)

For beating the Cards during his playing career and destroying the franchise with a managerial career? I'd build him a statue.

I'm talking about the moment the press conference begins and he puts on the jersey.

Just wait...

If the cards get off to a slow start, whenever Ryne makes a questionable move the Cards fans will cry that he's a spy sent from the Cubs to destroy them from within.

Who could possibly consider Carlos Martinez and Tyrell Jenkins on the same level as Shelby Miller??

Oh a Cardinals fan posing as a Cubs fan. Got it.

BA had Martinez at #18 in MLB in their mid season update. Consensus seems to be that he has better raw stuff and upside than Miller but there are concerns about his frame and he's not as polished. I didn't read that other guy's post, but saying that Martinez is on Miller's level as a prospect isn't really a stretch.

What I said was that they had 3 potential number 1's with Miller, Martinez and Jenkins and a potential #2 in Rosenthal. SSR decided the best defense was to take offense. When I pointed that it was Sickles point of view, he had a hissy fit.

Everybody, except perhaps SSR, knows that prospects are not guarantees. But the Cardinals farm system is pretty loaded right now. I suggested that LaRussa may have decided that someone else would be better suited to nursemaid those prospects as they matriculate thru the system the next few years...especially after being worn out by Rasmus. It's just an opinion, but makes sense to me.

Not expecting much in a grown up discussion from SSR who's best insult is that someone is a Cards fan.

Not so much an insult as an objective observation.

All right, I'll bite. To what end?

As much as I'm sure you enjoy bringing up the Cardinals prospects you are optimistic about and arguing their strengths to the point of insulting the Cubs fans over it, it has nothing to do with LaRussa retiring and quite honestly has little audience here.

You showed up early in the 2010 season to defend Adam Ottavino, disappeared for about a year and a half and returned only when the cards were in the world series to make a bunch of transparently partisan remarks in the post season thread. Not to mention your contribution to this thread.

It's ok to be a cards fan here. Just don't jerk people around pretending to be a Cubs fan. Its obnoxious.

On the contrary I mentioned that I'd seen Ottavino pitch in the minors once.

The next two threads were about Cubs leadership or lack thereof.

I talked about the Cardinals during the WS like a fan of baseball. I'm just as happy about the Cardinals winning the WS as I am about the Cubs doing so, it just hasn't paid much dividends in Wrigley lately.

I never tried to pretend anything.

so you are saying you are just a general fan of baseball, not the Cards or Cubs, who just happens to hang out of Cubs message boards talking about the Cardinals?

I'm saying that I am a very big fan of baseball who visits numerous message boards and ocassionally contributes in areas that interest me. I can discuss the prospect system of every team in the majors with some detail...not just the Cardinals. I do find, however, that on this forum there is a propensity to obsess about the Cardinals, so I offered comment both pro and con. If you actually read my LaRussa post it hardly concentrated on the prospects...but mentioned them as it relates to LaRussa and his successor. Since the post about LaRussa, I've found myself embroiled in your controversies.

I've visited and read this forum countless times throughout the year. Given the angst over their season, I saw no reason to add to it. The prospect system is merely adequate.

But you needn't worry. If all NSBB has to offer is insults, I'll gladly move along.

With the second half he had, I'd be shocked if anybody had Carlos Martinez anywhere near that high in their offseason lists.

Miller is a much better prospect, without a doubt.

Martinez is likely to come in between 25-50 and has played 1 year in the states. I'm not going to claim that Martinez is on Miller's level, because he has a much higher chance of busting, but he's very highly regarded by just about everyone. Miller, Martinez and Jenkins are all likely to be in the BA top 50 with Wong and Cox in the top 100. Matt Adams has a shot to be top 100, but shouldn't be because he's fat and doesn't walk.

You really think they will have Jenkins in their top 50?

He's got a shot. Probably shouldn't have said likely. I know Law has mentioned him in his top 50 (I know it's not BA.)

And I completely forgot about Oscar Taveras for some reason.

Cards are pretty much a lock to have 6 players in the top 100 and could have a 7th in Adams.

I like Jenkins, just think he's pretty raw. I'd be surprised if he was top 50, top 100 though for sure. He's no Hayden Simpson...... :banghead:

I think his results (4.23 K/BB) even though he's very raw are why Law, Goldstein etc. are so high on him. It was only 56 innings in Rookie ball, so I'm not all that sold, but I'm glad the Cards are finally drafting some HS arms with upside instead of unpolished college arms.

I know, Cardinals prospects blah blah blah.

Ya think? Are you a student of human nature? The Cardinals are a Cubs fan's Darth Vader. It is part of my very being to hate them. It fits as nicely as a comfortable old shoe.

That's too bad, sincerely. I actually have a great admiration for LaRussa. Geez, all the guy ever did was win wherever he managed. What a jerk! First ballot HOFer, no doubt about it! I just wish the Cubs could get somebody who could get the most from the least that he could get.

No, don't go anywhere, please. I am always eager to learn what's going on in other organisations (especially the hated Cardinals).
