So if the Cubs and Red Sox don't win a world series for the next 50+ years will the media come up with The Curse To Amicably Word Out Compensation Without the Commisioner Stepping In?

What the?

Sig-worthy.

Cubs insider on the PSD forums hearing / reporting that the compensation will be Chris Carpenter.

Just want to point out that that's not the so-called Cubs insider. ABTY is an insider of some kind, but Marlin something or other is the Cubs insider on that board.

Chris Carpenter is definitely more than prior precedent but I can't say it's an unreasonable amount to give up.

Agreed. Even though Carpenter was a well-regarded prospect, someone like Blake Parker probably has just as much of a chance of becoming a reliable late-inning reliever.

I would rather give up Carpenter if it means keeping Dolis. I can live with giving him up for Theo, I was kind of worried it would be Vitters because I still think he becomes a productive ML player.

Now the rumors today are that it's going to be McNutt... can't Selig take one of our middle infielders we seem to have a surplus of? Give them Junior Lake or something, we need the young arms.

Giving Lake would be awful. I'd be fine with somebody like Logan Watkins, but that's about as high up the prospect list as I'd go.

I think you'll be disappointed then. It might not be on a Lake/McNutt level, but the prospect will end up being a lot better than Watkins IMO. There's too much here that will up the precedent just a little bit. Theo's success, the "significant" compensation line, and the fact that the Red Sox have fought this as hard as they have. I'm hoping it's somebody like Carpenter or Dolis, but I'm fearing it's somebody the Cubs would miss more.

You're probably right. I expect compensation to be higher than Watkins at this point, but I'm still going to be really annoyed if Selig swoops in and gives away one of our better prospects against an already set precedent.

I'm getting pretty worried it's McNutt.

I doubt it.

I know this won't happen, but if I'm theo, I just keep saying no. I leave them with the option of taking who I say or taking Theo back for a year. Let Jed run the team through the rebuilding year. the plan is in place. Well no I wouldn't do that, but you can imagine if I did, eh?

it's ridiculous that it's gone on this long. Roster decisions need to be made over the next few weeks. WHy is Selig letting this drag out?

It's too late for that. Selig has the power to assign whoever he wants to the Red Sox's control.

At this point, they should hurry up and get it over with. Pitcher off the 40 man doesn't sound that bad. It makes sense - allowing the Red Sox to say they get a key guy, a guy who is ready (and possibly ready to replace Bard in the pen), and for us, it's a piece that we can give up.

My source on Yawkey Way says its Jeff Russell.
