I'm looking forward to an actual structure and direction rather than the flavor of the day.

You mean you never liked the "We need to get more Left Handed!" or "I like guys that can catch the ball!" seasons?

YES, amen to that. i got really sick of watching hendry become infatuated with one type of player because the cubs didn't hit righthanded pitching in a 3 game series, or didn't steal enough bases, or made a few too many errors. or trying to mimic what some other team did to win a world series (especially if it's some team that's not even that good, like the 2005 sox)

Espn's constant updating story:

Theo Epstein, the general manager of the Boston Red Sox for two championship teams in the last eight seasons, could be on his way to the Chicago Cubs in the next day or two if the Red Sox and Chicago can conclude negotiations, according to two sources.

"It's likely he's going to go but nothing has been finalized,'' a Red Sox official with direct knowledge of the negotiations told ESPNBoston.com's Gordon Edes.

I always though slot of those OCD infatuations were more Lou than Hendry.

The scouting structure will interest me, the player development will interest me more. It will be nice to see prospects not over their heads b/c of a hot month and a new level.

at this point, can epstein get this far and show his face in boston? this is the 2nd time he's almost left boston

The first time he was dressed as a gorilla, so it doesn't count.

Well that's a good sign when a Red Sox official with direct contact and knowledge of everything says "It's likely he's going to go but nothing has been finalized''

Jim Bowden apparently wrote an insider article about how Theo should beware of the GM spot in Chicago, because it's nothing like Boston.

I haven't read it and won't link to it, but if Jim Bowden thinks it's a bad idea, I'm driving the Epstein bandwagon.

yeah certainly it's not bad to address problem areas on the team, but hendry just seemed to do it in such a dumbassed way. like the 2005 were slow and didn't have a "traditional leadoff hitter," so he goes and gets juan pierre. great, now we have a guy who can hit leadoff and steal bases, but unfortunately he also makes truckloads of outs and can't throw. instead of improving the team hendry usually ended up cutting off his nose to spite his face.

Interesting:

Neither the Cubs nor Red Sox have formally acknowledged that the Red Sox granted permission to the Cubs to interview Epstein, but an industry source said Tuesday that Cubs owner Tom Ricketts spoke with Epstein last week and that Epstein met with Cubs president Crane Kenney in Chicago last weekend.

If Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein leaves for the Cubs, Ryne Sandberg will become the favorite to be named manager, according to Gordon Edes of ESPN Boston.

Epstein tried to hire Sandberg to manage Triple-A Pawtucket last winter. The move would obviously be popular in Chicago, where Sandberg is beloved. Sandberg managed Philadelphia's Triple-A squad this past season. He was named the Pacific Coast League's Manager of the Year in 2010 as skipper of Chicago's Triple-A affiliate.

So is this the inevitable Brian Roberts/Jake Peavy controversy thread of the off-season?

Pujols and Feilder aren't on the block yet. Ten seconds after the last out of the nlcs we'll start the bickering over one of them.

That was a crazy threesome.

Except this one is legit.

It would be so bizarre if he did this.
