Jim Bowden apparently wrote an insider article about how Theo should beware of the GM spot in Chicago, because it's nothing like Boston.

I haven't read it and won't link to it, but if Jim Bowden thinks it's a bad idea, I'm driving the Epstein bandwagon.

How the hell is an article by Jim Bowden given insider status? Have they stashed it behind the paywall as a favor to their readers?

I just think John Henry is probably smart enough to make the right decision and ignore the inane rabble of the masses.

Most of the Boston roster is set, so there's not much Theo could do to fix anything. Theo apparently wants more authority, which would mean stepping on Lucchino's toes. There is a ready made replacement in Cherington waiting in the wings to replace Epstein, who by account has been stressed out in Boston and whose contract is up after 2012 anyway.

Why exactly would shuffling the deck to retain Theo be so smart?

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Epstein pass out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious.

Some of Epstein's farm gems:

Lester, Pedroia, Papelbon, Youkilis, Bard and Jacoby Ellsbury.

That's solid.

No Yankees to overcome.

He'll win here.

Plus, as I understand it, we aren't as insane as Boston fans. That's probably not true. But if it helps, heck yes! We're less bi-polar than Boston, come here.

While the Cubs are closing in on a deal to make Epstein their general manager, talks between the Cubs and Red Sox still could collapse over the question of compensation. There has been fear within the Cubs' organization that Chairman Tom Ricketts will be asked to part with major pieces, possibly including All-Star shortstop Starlin Castro or Andrew Cashner, who on Tuesday hit 100 mph with his fastball in an Arizona Fall League game.

They've done an outstanding job of drafting players since Epstein took over. They're willing to spend, plus they do a really nice job of finding diamond in the rough types.

Yep. Which is exactly how Ricketts want to build this team.

I have to think Henry would lose a lot of integrity in baseball circles by asking for something like that.

Imagine if this all fell apart because of compensation.

We've heard of teams battling through chemistry problems because of disgruntled players. What the heck happens when you have a disgruntled general manager?

Mutiple outlets saying if Ricketts snags Theo and Sanberg, it will be arguably the biggest PR coupe in sports history.

Multiple outlets, eh?

I can't imagine compensation being a deciding factor.

This has got to be about Theo struggling with loyalty, emotion, his home/family, etc. It's a tough decision, no doubt.

We all consider Chicago to be home. Heck, if I had a job opportunity I'd move back down to Chicago so quick it would make my own head spin. But for someone who has lived and breathed Boston like that, it's got to be a little daunting. Just a few weeks ago, he was no doubt fully entrenched in trying to figure out any way possible to make the playoffs for one more run at the World Series. Now he's suddenly uprooting his entire family and life.

Listening to sports radio and it was mentioned (outlets, etc.) And yes, you could easily argue it.

No not really just multiple outlets quoting the same stupid line about Theo wanting Sandberg for a minor league job. For some reason that equates to him wanting Sandberg for the major league one. Because it makes for nice publicity I guess. just because you want something to be true doesn't make it so.

If not being able to bring in his own guys would be an issue for Theo, how about his ex-guys? Would Josh Byrnes be amenable to another assistant GM position or a lateral move to VP of baseball operations for the Cubs? Would Theo want him?
