theo is hired and introduced, brings out sandberg, who is now back with his ex-wife/handler/manager cindy. Sandberg walks around the stage a little bit, francona, wearing a balck leather jacket in the stands, jumps over the barrier while ryno's back is turned and hits him with brass knuckles. theo smashes him with a chair, cindy kisses francona and epstein as dave martinez is announced as the new manager. ryno is spray-painted and leg-dropped by theo and fade to black, credits.

I am humping you with karma right now.

something else about Pedroia, he was absolutely godawful the first 50+ games to his career and despite the fans' protestations they kept him in there

yea, we have never had managers yank kids too soon....

I don't want to see it happen, but it makes more sense than you're apparently seeing. Unless Theo has someone else particular in mind, it seems like the likely choice.

Theo apparently likes him, and might see him as a guy who he can make an extension of the front office.

What makes it such a likely choice? And what evidence do we have that Theo believes he could turn Sandberg into an extension of the front office?

Because Ryno wants the job, Cubs fans (most of them) want Ryno to have the job and Theo apparently likes him as a managerial material (he tried to hire him as the AAA manager)?

And I used the caveat "unless he has someone in mind".

Listen, I don't want to see Sandberg as manager one bit, but if I had to handicap the field, I'd put Ryno as the favorite.

Not to get too far off this awesome threads track, but why is Ryno not wanted by many here? Seriously now, other than win, what's the problem?

He's too hardline old school. To a fault.

ryno really favors ray liotta in that last pic. I'm sold.

Please don't [expletive] with me like this, theo, and then back out.

Please no Sandberg talk. This thread is moving fast enough already, and we've been through these paces with Hollandsworth's mug on multiple occasions. Start a new thread if you're so desperate to hear opinions on Sandberg.

This basically has an overview of what happened and Epstein coming here to hear Ricketts sales pitch

http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/whitesox/ct-spt-1012-gm-cubs-chicago--20111012,0,7995150.story

Epstein still could pull out, the source said, though he appears sold on Ricketts' pitch.

Seems like a pretty positive article, from our perspective. He obviously did meet with Ricketts.....it's just that Tom is in stealth mode, not even responding to requests for comment. And neither is Theo.

I still think this happens. Maybe I'm wrong. We'll see.

Should runners slide into first base on close plays?

I google image searched Theo Epstein and there are pictures of him playing guitar. I sure hope someone told him Len and Bob have a band.

My friend said he heard the Red Sox want 2 maybe 3 Prospects in return for Theo. One Top 10 guy. His guess was something like Flarehty and Carpenter.

That would be make sense, considering what the Sox got for Guillen. I'm kind of expecting that we've seen the last of Josh Vitters once this deal goes through

if that's all they want, super-awesome.

i'm going to throw a random guess out there and say that the cubs give up cashner.

That's a terrible guess.

FINISH THIS RICKETTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Someone call him and wake him up. NO TIME TO SLEEP, get this done now!

I find it hilarious that some sources earlier said that compensation would not be a hurdle, while some sources say that its a hurdle but likely not one that would trip it up, and now Phil Rodgers saying that compensation could kill this deal.

As for what the compensation would be, we've heard that it would not be any major league player, that it would be a mix of prospects and cash, that it would be a couple of prospects, that it would only be cash, and now that its possibly they demand Castro or Garza.

Great reporting guys.
