A source with knowledge of the talks told ESPN's Karl Ravech that the compensation would involve prospects and/or cash, but no major league players would be part of the deal, following traditional precedent.

well considering that randy winn was compensation for lou piniella going to tampa, this traditional precedent really is not set in stone.

Aside From Castro, Garza, and Cashner, we really don't have any big league players I wouldn't rather give them than any of our top prospects. And yes, that's more of a knock against our big leaguers than an endorsement of our prospects.

Between me ending my career in professional baseball and this, I will gladly devote all my baseball attention towards the Cubs again.

This is the most lively this board has been since 2008, it seems.

Theo is going to use shuffle on his iPod to make the decision for him. The catch is there are only two tracks on the playlist:

"And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going" and "My Kind of Town"

First one to play wins. Or best of seven.

:)

Yes, but I wonder how Theo would really get along in Boston now.

It's not like a player. People need to know that the leadership is actually there because that's where he wants to be. Clearly that's not totally the case now.

It's over, whether or not Theo actually leaves now. He's going to leave, so why draw it out?

Come to the Cubs. We want you here. Boston really doesn't anymore. Go where you are wanted.

Theo's a sabermetric guy. Not a big enough sample size.

There's no way a guy named Epstein could be Jewish.

wrong thread, but someone does need to stop this josh hamilton monster

This whole thing reminds me a little too much of the Peavy debacle. The story seemed to change literally every hour. At least this one can only last a few weeks max and not the entire winter.

All rumored sports news goes that way in the twitter age, as reporters rush to present the newest info, many times without confirmation. So a lot of the info you read is clearly wrong.

My friend said he heard the Red Sox want 2 maybe 3 Prospects in return for Theo. One Top 10 guy. His guess was something like Flarehty and Carpenter.

That would be make sense, considering what the Sox got for Guillen. I'm kind of expecting that we've seen the last of Josh Vitters in this deal.

Honestly, I don't want him if it takes that much.

Is this serious?

I'd probably be willing to part with Flaherty and Carpenter for him. Definitely better than Jackson, McNutt, or Szczur.
