My friend said he heard the Red Sox want 2 maybe 3 Prospects in return for Theo. One Top 10 guy. His guess was something like Flarehty and Carpenter.

That would be make sense, considering what the Sox got for Guillen. I'm kind of expecting that we've seen the last of Josh Vitters once this deal goes through

I got my 40 at the ready.

Steve Buckley was just on ESPN News. He said he's heard the the negotiations involve not only compensation, but whether Theo can bring anyone else along from the Boston front office (no names mentioned).

Okay, two impeccable sources tell me that Theo is wrestling with personal decision to leave his home in Boston. Has Red Sox in his heart.

If you're hiring Theo, you're hiring his judgement on who should be on his team. That may be part of the negotiations, but it can't be a road block from our perspective. Might be for the Sox though.

wouldn't the wanting other boston front office guys suggest perhaps he is going to be president, or has it been absolutely determined his only possible title would be general manager?

Good lord, why do al the talking heads act like our team is just the worst thing ever? Like we are a decade away from being good or something.

It's weird if that's the case, our two rivals for the division may very lose their best players with a good chance that one of them comes to us. We're not going to have to be great to win the division if Pujols and Fielder are gone and one of them are on our team you wouldn't think and that's without even taking the future of the franchise into consideration.

If we're giving up prospects and they're not from this past draft since they can't be dealt yet, I'm OK with anyone not named Brett Jackson. McNutt, or Szczur. OK, I don't want to see Golden, Candelario, and a few other very low minors guys dealt either. But, my guess is it'll be guys like Carpenter,Dolis, Castillo, Flaherty, LeMahieu types that wind up as compensation. Or a wad of cash.

Hey All:

This is Noah Pinzur. I am the one who broke the story to the Chicago Tribune. I am glad after all the nasty comments most of you wrote about me, you will all have to eat your words. Whether he signs or not, he WAS here in Chicago.

i'm not sure that two of his klan buddies qualify as impeccable sources.

i doubt it's a discussion being had with the cubs

One imagines that's the case here, that Boston doesn't want Theo taking the best young executives from their front office with him.

I can't see the Cubs having any problem with it - if they think enough of Theo to go through the process of talking to him and (hopefully) hiring him, I can't imagine they're going to balk at him wanting to bring a few of his handpicked lieutenants with him.

http://www.csnne.com/10/11/11/Epstein-close-to-leaving-Sox-heading-to-/landing_redsox.html?blockID=575848&feedID=3352

According to a high-ranking baseball official, Theo Epstein is on the verge of leaving the Red Sox after 10 seasons to head up the Chicago Cubs front office.

"It's close, but it's not done yet," said the official who has knowledge of the situation.

Just last Friday, principal owner John Henry and team president and CEO Larry Lucchino, in an interview with WEEI, refused to confirm that the Cubs had requested permission to speak to Epstein about the position.

A report out of Chicago had Epstein spotted in the vicinity of Wrigley Field last weekend, though that is still unconfirmed.

The Boston Herald was the first to report that Epstein was "on the cusp" of joining the Cubs and reported that compensation from the Cubs was the lone remaining sticking point.

Epstein has a year remaining on his current contract and the Sox would be within their right to obtain compensation for allowing Epstein to leave.

But the same baseball official said compensation was not the sticking point, while refusing to elaborate.

"It's a little more complicated than that," said the official of what was holding up finalization.

It's widely expected that Ben Cherington, whose history with the organization pre-dates Epstein's, will be named as the team's next general manager.

My excitement is dying. What a freaking roller coaster. Please go through!

It's about to explode again. This thing is going to happen.

As Ronnie once said: I KNOW IT!

Cubs have no comment on Theo report in Boston Herald. Of course, they've had no comment on GM search since Ricketts' spoke in SD.

No matter what happens I am very happy to see Ricketts not letting the Chicago media know all the details behind what he is doing. The Chicago media tends to turn everything with the Cubs into a soap opera. I think it's a good decision to alienate the media and keep the negotiations private.

If Theo went this far and backs out for personal reasons, he can [expletive] off. You don't go this far down the road with a job unless you know you are OK moving your family, especially when money is not an issue or consideration.

The Cubs did everything right in the courting of Theo and are offering him a promotion. The Marlins were tampering with Guillen for over a year before Guillen forced himself out of Chicago to go to the same position in Florida.

There is no way that the Cubs should give up anything near what the Sox did.

There have been reports that the Cubs have told MLB that the position would be a promotion from his current position.
