Yeah, Green Bay and Detroit have been 2 of the best drafting teams of late while the Bears have been horrific.

I still can't believe they can miss so badly on the offensive and defensive lines. They have been awful on both lines with the draft and FA, Peppers doesn't count given the price tag.

Angelo should be fired, last year's smoke and mirrors shouldn't save him.

They've drafted some quality defensive linemen. Unless Carimi turns into something, they can't say the same thing on offense.

They've had huge busts, like that freaking idiotic Dan Bazuin selection, but Harris was great, Johnson and Dusty were good but with side issues that kept them from living up to their abilities. And a few other guys have been decent enough.

Harris was the only one. Dvorcek (sp?) was injury riddled and Johnson didn't pan out. Paea hasn't even dressed yet on a D-Line with no depth. They traded a 2nd rd. pick on a 1st rd. bust, that doesn't factor what happened.

my biggest issue with Angelo is his arrogance (or ignorance) with certain positions. At some point, you have to come to the conclusion that you just don't get it, so bring in someone who does. I guess that was the reason behind Tice, but how much does Tice get a voice in the draft picks? How much would he know?

I'm pretty sure Tice handpicked Gabe Carimi. Maybe he liked J'Marcus Webb and had some say so there. But I think Carimi is the extent of his influence in the draft (granted only been 2 years). Tice's son played with Carimi and Tice saw Gabe play every game at UW.

Dusty was good and then he got injured, you can't claim they missed that badly on him in the draft when injuries were his undoing. They've screwed up the offensive line, but the defensive line hasn't been nearly as bad.

Some times I feel that way, but then other times you see the guy go out and trade for a legit #1 QB. He ignores the offensive line in the draft, then he spends 2 #1 picks in 4 years on linemen. He got arrogant on things like the Bazuin and Wolfe picks, thinking he could overspend on his own diamonds in the rough. But then he also went out and got Peppers when his pass rush picks weren't panning out.

Hi,

I think Theo has brightened everyone's mood too much....so I give you this...

Peppers has a sprained MCL in his left knee.

He has not been ruled out for Sunday though.

Cutler fell into his lap. Peppers was a great fit (and on defense where Angelo seems to have some intelligence).

But O-line only becomes important when he has no other choice. If he had been drafting O-lineman the way he drafts safeties, you'd think we wouldn't be in this situation. Also, he apparently cant judge a safety from a hole in the ground with his recent picks.

I admit, I want to give Angelo very little credit for anything good.

Angelo gave up too many draft picks for Cutler, as good as he's been.

How's that sound?

To be more accurate, Cutler fell into Angelo's lap. I seem to recall that Cutler had a strong desire to go to Chicago and that no one else was really even up for consideration.

um...thats what I said

Right, which is why I was quoting Bukie, not you.

He did fall into his lap, but Angelo had the guts to make the move. The Bears became a likely destination because the Bears showed interest while everybody else argued over who was the biggest bitch in that situation. Chicago was definitely not the only potential suitor. And it wasn't some free agent destination where Cutler had his choice of destination.

I don't know about that. I'm pretty sure that other interested GMs werent thinking "I should go after Cutler...well no, I'm not even sure who is to blame for him asking out...I'd better stay out of this."

Obviously I was being somewhat sarcastic but there definitely was a perception that Cutler was a spoiled brat, and don't for a second think there weren't GMs who felt that way.

This wasn't Ramirez or Lee falling in Hendry's lap, where the only reason they got them is because the Cubs have more money than almost every other team. It was not some fait accompli that Chicago would get Cutler. I'm not calling Angelo a genius for making the move, but there's no reason to just ignore it as something he did.
