Dilfer, Marino and some other guy were just discussing Cutler. Dilfer made some comment that Angelo has said Jay"..holds onto the ball too long". Dilfer basically pointed out how incredibly stupid that comment was, as Cutler is constantly running for his life. He also hammered Angelo on not getting Cutler support.

Marino took Cutler to task on not working on his footwork enough, questioning his "passion". Dilfer took offense to that, saying Cutler was fighting "...like a Warrior" and that setting his feet tonight would have gotten him killed. He also pointed out that no other QB in the league could have made the throws he had to make. The other dude agreed with him.

Marino thinks Cutler should be one f the top 2 QBs in the league, he just doesn't "put the necessary time in". idk.

Hopefully, more people start to point out Angelo's ineptitude to the point where Ted Phillips finally wakes the [expletive] up and cans his ass.

I think you mean Young instead of Marino. Steve Young's probably the worst football analyst out there.

You keep hearing how smart Steve Young is. But whenever you hear him do commentary, he sounds like a rambling fool. I get to hear him on the radio a lot here in the bay area. Perhaps the law degree fools people.

He really did, too. He must be so frustrated with this team. The offense is what we expected, but god the defense is horrible. Chris Harris played like hot garbage. The safety play on this team overall is terrible.

Jay is freaking man amongst little boys, and he has Angelo to thank for this mess. The offense is talentless and the defense is as old as Al Davis. This was obvious to everyone during the pre-season and many of us were shouting about it. Angelo stubbornly did nothing.

It's Angelo's fault, plain and simple.

Did anyone see how much trouble Kellen Davis had lining up correctly during multiple plays?

There was one play I mentioned earlier where Cutler screamed at Davis THREE times to go in motion. It was to the point where Cutler almost had to take a delay of game penalty because Davis was just sitting there with a blank stare on his face. I know its loud and he's scared of committing his 4th false start of the game, but come on man.

There was also another play later in the game where Cutler (or Forte) had to physically grab Davis and push him in the correct direction so he was lined up properly.

Overall the Bears looked really disorganized in general last night, and made a ton of mental errors that in normal circumstances can not be excused.

Just my 2 cents, but...

My history of knee problems quickly led me to defend Cutler at the end of last season. I now have the utmost respect for him after watching that game last night. That offensive line is comically bad. Imagine how good he would look if he had a pocket to throw in every now and again and didn't get hit every time he dropped back to pass.

I also remembered why I rarely watch Monday night games. That booth has to be near the top of the "worst crew ever" list.

They were beyond terrible.

Matt Forte?

Is Forte a restricted or unrestricted free agent this offseason?

UFA, but they'll use the franchise tag on him.

Jay Cutler is a goddamned hero for doing what he did with zero protection. I don't watch as much football as some, but I've never seen an O-line so horrendously ineffective in my life. It's like they weren't even there. It's amazing Cutler wasn't killed, much less performed the way he did.

Last night was the perfect illustration of Angelo's incompetence. It's like spending big money on a skilled contractor to build your house, but only providing him with the worst materials to work with. Jay isn't perfect, but we haven't had any kind of chance to see what he can really do, and that's a real shame.

Jerry Angelo should be run out of town by a mob, and anyone pointing at Jay as a primary problem should be punched in the face.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the crew blame him for one penalty that was clearly by Williams? They said Davis as soon as the flag was thrown, but even after the replays showed it was an interior linemen and the refs called it on Williams (or maybe Webb) the crew was blaming Davis.

Jeebus H Christmas that offensive line is terrible. I know it was asking a lot for Tice to turn them into something decent, but he sure as hell hasn't done a [expletive] thing to make them better. Angelo is an incompetent mess.

If you switched QBs in that game, Detroit wins by 50.

I haven't read the whole thread, but what was the deal with the Lions D-line constantly moving before the snap? I thought they too had to be fairly set and not constantly jumping over the line and back to try to disrupt the O-line? Maybe I just made that up.

Also, what was with Vanden-Bosch and his "Neutral Zone Infraction" when he just ran up and shoved Cutler down well after the whistles were blown? Shouldn't that have been more of an encroachment or roughing the passer? Or just plain old ass-hattery?

Yeah, I saw that too. Hester was lost on multiple occasions at the line as well.

They do not have to be set. They can't cause the line to move with their movements though. There was one blown call by the refs when he was dancing. But other than that they just looked like an undisciplined line that knew they were in for a fun day of QB killing.

The push of Cutler was relatively harmless, although it could have been called just based on the fact that there was no need and the whistle was clearly blown well before it. If the linemen weren't just pansies they may have tried to fight the man.

Oh, and screw you Lovie for another horrible round of timeout/challenge roulette and downplaying just how much of a freaking superstar Cutler had to be to keep the team in that game You were terrible Lovie. As dumb as you've ever been on gameday.

Thanks for the clarification on that!

Also, with the timeout/challenge bs in the 1st quarter... If you are trying to lure the D-line in (on the first play) and they know you're trying to lure them in (as shown by the fact that it was one of the only plays they weren't moving AT ALL), and you have Barber in the backfield, why not just run the play instead of wasting 2 time outs? Also, if you ARE going for it on 4th and short, why not run Barber back out there instead of Forte? It's not like they were fooling anyone either time.

As horrible as the offense was though, if we had safeties worth a damn, we might have actually won that game.

True, but the only reason was Cutler.

The defensive line did nothing though, and the linebackers have to take a big part of the blame on those runs. This defense got old again in a hurry.

was it Harris or Briggs that fucked up the Best 88 yrdr? The announcers were acting like it was Briggs, but Harris was no where to be seen. I think he ran into the right side, and got swallowed up

Briggs was dropping into coverage, I thought. I didn't see Harris on ANY replays and (I think) Gruden kept saying, "Where was Harris on that play?"

Also, do we have the slowest defense in the world?

Yeah, you really can't say enough about Cutler's performance. I've never seen a QB as under siege in my life. Just watching it made me want to punch Angelo.
