Did you find Chocolate Milk?

no, but i look for him every time i drive past that red brick condo building on the river and lake shore dr cause i feel like i remember someone saying he shacked up there

i even made a giant sign that said chocolate milk and wore it to the taste of chicago cause that's right by there, but all i got was dirty looks

but anyway, i think we're a little off topic here people

ideas worse than hiring sandberg as cubs mgr:

Another battle looming between Cubs, Red Sox?

8 hours ago by KenRosenthal

The haggling between the Cubs and Red Sox over Theo Epstein might not be the last battle between the two clubs this offseason.

The teams also could end up competing for managers — and specifically, Cubs legend and Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg.

They let us have Theo, we agree to let them hire Sandberg without competing.

I just don't Ryno to be a Mike Quade-like manager and get me to hate him. But I assume people have scouted Ryno's managing in the minors and if he's done a good job, he'll get a job. But so many teams have been passing on him so it scares me a little.

Apparently the job he did this year with a group of AAAA players and has beens really opened eyes and became more legitimate around baseball. I know I heard rumblings that the Phillies wanted to groom him to take over after Manual leaves/retires.

This is good news. I have faith he could be a great manager but I don't want to hate the guy and want him to lose his job.

I don't know many fans who don't hate their manager...outside of maybe some TB fans I know.

With a manager like Ryno, we all would.

Don't avoid hiring Ryno because of that. There are tons of examples of teams hiring former stars as manager and obviously most of them were fired at some point and I don't believe they are forever tainted in the eyes of fans. I know for a fact that Orioles fans are still unbelievably fond of Frank Robinson and he drove that team to the ground way back when.

Not sure if im thrilled with his philosophies in general but I'm not anti-Ryno because I dot want his legacy to be tainted in the eyes of Cubs fans. Flip tha around, how would Ryno be regarded if he was the manager to break the drought?

I don't even care about Ryno. I only saw him play when he sucked in 96 and 97.

I just don't want him to manage because he's like the poster boy for old timey baseball cliches.

Being a manager for Theo Epstein seems like it would be so easy. Easy in terms of baseball decisions I mean. No bunting, don't steal bases unless the guy can make well over 70%, play your best players according to the numbers.

Basically all the baseball decisions are made for you.

There are SOME difficulties though. You need to be respected by the clubhouse and give good interviews. Ryno has the HoF credentials to get respect, but I'm not sure about how he does interviews. He's need to buy into the team philosophy though, and I don't see why someone wouldn't.

I have a feeling it would be very hard to get Ryne Sandberg to abide by those rules (especially the first two)...and he wouldn't be very happy doing it, if he did.

But yea, if he's just gonna be a fun Cubbie nostalgia mascot doing everything Theo tells him to do, then bring him on.

I'd rather a manager be removed from the dugout when his team is at bat; less chance he'd screw up. The thing I care about is knowing how to handle a pitching staff. Beyond that, just be a in a trance for all I care.

Maybe in the first 6 innings. It can be very helpful to have a manager make good decisions in the last 3 innings.

Sure it can be. If they make smart moves it feels great. But the problem is the more they try to do in the name of "making things happen", instead of just letting the players play baseball, the more it can hurt the team.
