Rogers doesn't think the Cubs will get Darvish because it would block Casey Coleman.

WTH? I hope he didn't really say that.

It's a joke because he said signing Prince would block an organizational player like LaHair.

I guess he would somewhat block Casey Coleman, but not nearly as much as the fact that Casey Coleman's bad is blocking Casey Coleman.

It's laughable because no one should be concerned about blocking Casey Coleman; He's nothing more than pitching depth.

Not sure what the Cubs are doing but they have not acted at all like a major market team thus far. Weak qualifying bid to Pujols and also Darvish.

What?

We don't know what their bid for Darvish was and unless they win we may never know. Also, I'm glad the Cubs didn't offer anything near the 10 years and $250M+ he received. I don't have issue with what they've done thus far... The organization needs an entire overhaul and it isn't realistic to think it will happen in one offseason.

From what was said, the Jays offered him the highest amount. We will find out tonight. Again, that is what has been said. As for Pujols, the offer the Cubs gave reportedly was no where near the amount he was looking for.

He's got inside sources. The source is BigBird from OriolesHangout.

There was another report that the Rangers were the highest bid.

I wouldn't trust any report right now until the OFFICIAL winner is announced.

Actually, from what was said, they didn't, because from what was said, the Jays offered 40-50M, and from what was said, the offer was over $51,111,111...but what was said is all a bunch of nonsense so none of that mattered.

He's going off of what Cafardo said. I don't think ANYONE outside of a very select few FO people inside our organization has any clue what we're doing. Because as soon as a report comes out we're "in" seriously on someone big, within an hour another report comes out to refute it. And this is obviously by design, because it's happened with everyone. Are we going to spend big this offseason? I have no clue, but neither does anyone else. It's possible. It's also possible we're about to hold a massive firesale, revamp the system quickly, find out what guys like Shark, Carpenter, Dolis, Castillo, and God forbid, even LaHair can do given some time. Worst case is they fall flat, best case is one or two of them becomes viable longterm options that are cheap for us. We've got plenty of money to spend, but whether it's spent immediately is going to be a question mark until we know what Darvish and Fielder are doing.

If we miss on Darvish, I'm hoping someone other than Toronto or Texas wins the bid. We've talked about Texas quite a bit as a stop for Garza, but Toronto is LOADED. You've got Drabek, Alvarez. Arencibia, Cooper, and Snider all at the major league level basically. I'm not necessarily a huge fan of some of these guys, but a pair of them and a pair of some of their young arms would be phenomenal. Syndergaard, Nicolino, and Hutchison all appear to be potential studs. They're further away and all, but this franchise is absolutely stacked, because they have plenty more I haven't even mentioned.

Found this article on Yu. Not liking the high pitch count total at all.

http://mopupduty.com/yu-darvish-final-pitch-count-1231/

As noted in our Yu Darvish 2010 Pitch Count article, last season Yu broke the 140+ pitch count barrier nine times and the 130 barrier ten times, for a season total of 3234 pitches.

This season he threw 140+ only once (145 on July 30th) and the 130+ mark seven times, eliminating higher workload starts but throwing more total pitches for the season (3396). His 2011 total would have earned him a rank of 22nd overall in the MLB.

As was the case in 2010, Darvish’s total pitch count is similar to Toronto Blue Jays starter Ricky Romero. Romero threw 3241 pitches in 2010 & 3374 pitches in 2011.

According to the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, the Yankees' offer was well below what two other American League teams, reportedly the Toronto Blue Jays and Texas Rangers, submitted. The winning bid is "a ridiculous number," the source told The Star-Ledger. Reports say it could exceed the $51.1 million the Boston Red Sox committed to Daisuke Matsuzaka in 2006.

Should find out in about two hours.

We should find out in about two hours that we are acting like the K.C. Royals and not a major market team. That said, I do fear that Yu's arm will fall off within three years. So while the Cubs lack of going for some of the top shelf free agents is bothersome, I can understand the low ball offer in this case because of the potential arm issues.

BREAKING NEWS: NOBODY HAS A DAMN CLUE AS TO WHAT IS GOING ON.

The Blue Jays have the highest bid.

Nope. The Rangers do.

Nope. The Yankees do.

Don't count out the Blue Jays. The Rangers have the highest bid. The Cubs have no money.

If everyone knows what the Blue Jays and Rangers bid, and the winning bid was "significantly higher than the rest" how is there confusion between those two?

If we don't win we will never know the bid, so how will we know we are acting like the Royals?

Because the knee-jerk reaction will be to assume we bid $1. You know, because the Cubs/Ricketts have no money.

Or maybe, just maybe, the Cubs are acting like an organization that finally has a long-term plan.

In this case I can understand it because of the potential arm issues due to the ridiculous pitch counts. But if the Cubs are not sincere players for Prince Fielder, I will be very discouraged at the approach thus far.

IMO, the long-term plan would not be compromised by signing Prince Fielder. Heck, I am a HUGE fan of Darvish and I am almost to the point where I want the Cubs to take the risk and sign him. Very tough call however with all of those pitches the guy has thrown.

Jesus Christ...one guy (that [expletive] clown Cafardo) reports that our offer was low and now we are "reported to have made a low-ball offer."

Well, I guess it's literally true.

Most folks guessing/assuming Jays have won Darvish bidding. But just got off the phone with an AL exec who speculates smart $ is on Rangers.
