  1. There goes our best hitter. I have to hand it to Theo, though. He is staying right on the track he said he would.
  2. We still stinks. And Prince Fielder is not fat, he's oval shaped. But I give Theo credit here as he has stuck to his guns about rebuilding and not just paying for top tier free agents just because. All that said, this could be a very, very long season or two. Kinda stinks we have to go through a long winter knowing our team is going to be horrid in 2012.
  3. Were you asking me that and who the hell is that?
  4. So I remember hearing/reading Ricketts say that he would give Theo an open checkbook. Thus far, either it was BS or Epstein and Hoyer do not see the players that keep flying off the board being worth the dollars and years. Really sucky winter so far for the Cubs.
  5. If your Twitter feed really says that's 34 minutes old, there's something wrong with your internet (or he reposted it). Wow! Thanks for bringing that up. I just saw it.
  6. Buster_ESPN Buster Olney Most folks guessing/assuming Jays have won Darvish bidding. But just got off the phone with an AL exec who speculates smart $ is on Rangers. 34 minutes ago Favorite Retweet Reply
  7. Or maybe, just maybe, the Cubs are acting like an organization that finally has a long-term plan. IMO, the long-term plan would not be compromised by signing Prince Fielder. Heck, I am a HUGE fan of Darvish and I am almost to the point where I want the Cubs to take the risk and sign him. Very tough call however with all of those pitches the guy has thrown.
  8. We should find out in about two hours that we are acting like the K.C. Royals and not a major market team. That said, I do fear that Yu's arm will fall off within three years. So while the Cubs lack of going for some of the top shelf free agents is bothersome, I can understand the low ball offer in this case because of the potential arm issues. So which is it? In this case I can understand it because of the potential arm issues due to the ridiculous pitch counts. But if the Cubs are not sincere players for Prince Fielder, I will be very discouraged at the approach thus far.

  10. According to the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, the Yankees' offer was well below what two other American League teams, reportedly the Toronto Blue Jays and Texas Rangers, submitted. The winning bid is "a ridiculous number," the source told The Star-Ledger. Reports say it could exceed the $51.1 million the Boston Red Sox committed to Daisuke Matsuzaka in 2006. Yu Darvish's Japanese team stands to rake in lots of cash for the prized righthander. (AP Photo)The Chicago Cubs also are reported to have made a low-ball offer for the 25-year-old Darvish. http://aol.sportingnews.com/mlb/story/2011-12-19/yu-darvish-new-york-yankees-nippon-ham-posted-japan
  11. Found this article on Yu. Not liking the high pitch count total at all. http://mopupduty.com/yu-darvish-final-pitch-count-1231/ As noted in our Yu Darvish 2010 Pitch Count article, last season Yu broke the 140+ pitch count barrier nine times and the 130 barrier ten times, for a season total of 3234 pitches. This season he threw 140+ only once (145 on July 30th) and the 130+ mark seven times, eliminating higher workload starts but throwing more total pitches for the season (3396). His 2011 total would have earned him a rank of 22nd overall in the MLB. As was the case in 2010, Darvish’s total pitch count is similar to Toronto Blue Jays starter Ricky Romero. Romero threw 3241 pitches in 2010 & 3374 pitches in 2011.
  12. What? From what was said, the Jays offered him the highest amount. We will find out tonight. Again, that is what has been said. As for Pujols, the offer the Cubs gave reportedly was no where near the amount he was looking for.
  13. Not sure what the Cubs are doing but they have not acted at all like a major market team thus far. Weak qualifying bid to Pujols and also Darvish.
  14. I want to post a link to this article but I am not familiar if we can do that here. But here is some new info on Fielder as reported by Bruce Levine just now. Manager Dale Sveum said talk of the Chicago Cubs' pursuit of free agent slugger Prince Fielder has been overblown. "At this point it's a lot of media talk," Sveum said Friday when he officially announced his first coaching staff as Cubs manager. "We haven't had any talks with Prince. I haven't had any conversations. Again it's a lot of media talk." However, the Cubs remain involved in conversations with Fielder's agent Scott Boras, a source familiar with the situation told ESPNChicago.com's Bruce Levine on Friday.
  15. I always find it amusing when people/columnists say the Cubs have no chance to contend next year as if it's set in stone. These are the same dopes who said that after 2002 the Cubs would not contend for years to come. The very next season we are on the brink of the world series. Yes, there is much work to be done but to predict the Cubs 2012 season when we are still in 2011 is pretty funny.
  16. First time poster. First off, just wanted to say hello to all my fellow Cubs fans. Secondly, I do think Epstein and Hoyer will sign Prince. He is certainly a player you can build around and while Boras might want ten years, look for a six to seven year deal to be more than enough. When you can sport an OPS of .929 for your career, you are in rarefied air.
