6/112? Please and thank you.

This times 10000.

Considering the posting should be lower than Dice-K, it'll be like 12-14M/yr for Darvish + 30-40M posting fee (guessing here)... Where do I sign?

Although I'm hoping it'll be even cheaper than that overall. Anything under 100M (contract+posting) will be a steal IMO. The only problem I see is the money upfront for the posting.

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com hears that the Rangers are more focused on trading for a starting pitcher than signing free agent first baseman Prince Fielder or even pursuing Japanese right-hander Yu Darvish.

Plans could change at any moment, but Rosenthal was told that the team’s payroll flexibility is not as significant as many in the industry previously believed. With that in mind, the Rangers are exploring more cost-effective trades for starting pitchers such as Matt Garza of the Cubs, Gio Gonzalez of the A's and Wade Davis of the Rays.

Yesssssssssss.

This sort of report is usually a smokescreen to the team dropping a humongous load of cash on someone.

Just like the Angels were leaking to reporters that they only had "$10-$15 million" to spend right before they signed Pujols and Wilson.

Anyone else surprised by how we aren't even mentioned as a possible suitor for Darvish by many of the mainstream guys? I mean i'm not worried that we won't make a significant bid. But our interest seems like common knowledge by now IMO.

Yu Darvish will be far less likely to settle on a contract he believes fair if the winning posting fee is high, according to Yahoo! Sports.

Darvish believes the posting system is unfair. He's right. Obviously the higher the fee, the less the winning team will be able to offer him. Darvish's preference is to play for a West Coast team, according to the report. Bids to negotiate with Darvish are due at 5 p.m. ET on Wednesday.

How far from unrestricted free agency is Darvish, anyway? IIRC, Japanese players have to accumulate 10 years of service time before they can avoid the posting process. Is that right?

I can't find the exact rule, but according to this article, it's seven seasons. Which, I think, means he would be eligible to leave following next season? Doesn't sound right, but I can't find the exact date.

This may have been answered already, but how quickly after the deadline will we find out who won the bidding?

Anywhere from minutes to a week.

Depends on how fast it leaks, how fast MLB makes an official announcement, and how much time Nippon takes to accept or decline the bid. They have until next Tuesday to decide.

The Yankees aren't expected to post a bid high enough to land Yu Darvish, according to the New York Daily News.

New York said as much last week. The Yankees will assuredly post a bid, but it isn't expected to be competitive with industry expectations. According to the Post, "The smart money is on either the Blue Jays or Rangers to land Darvish."

I'm pretty surprised by this, too. Maybe Fukudome told him to stay away and the Cubs have been informed that he doesn't want to play for them? This guy seems perfect for us and I'd be really puzzled if we didn't put in a substantial bid for him. The dude seems like a real huge douche, though.

Half the national media thinks we don't even have money and we're a small market team, apparently. They don't think we're dropping $50M just to talk to him.

He's also evidently said he prefers the West coast. I'm sure we've done all the research we can do, so if we're the high bid, I'm guessing we'll be fine with signing him.

Ugh. Considering none of our "rivals" are really big threats to get him, Toronto posting the highest bid would be worst case scenario. The odds of Darvish wanting to go to an east coast Canadian team are pretty much zero.

I don't believe any of these reports that have teams saying "Aww, shucks, we don't really have that much money and don't plan on putting in a competitive bid." That's standard operating procedure for these things, and then those same teams will drop huge bids.

Boston was playing the "aww, shucks" routine right up to the day they bid $51 million for Matsuzaka.

Really? I don't recall that at all.

That may just be how I remember it.

If the Cubs don't win this bid, I'm pretty much giving up on 2012. Well, not really, but it goes from "Sure, we can compete" to "Well, I guess it's not the most improbable thing ever."

While I know they have til the 20th to release the winning team's name and all, I think I remember reading his team was DEFINITELy accepting the bid, under any circumstance. So, I'm hopeful we'll hear something on him later today.

I think tomorrow would be the earliest we'd hear.

I doubt it. Tomorrow isn't unrealistic though.

Someone posted this on the MLBTR chat:

Is it true what WGN Radio is reporting? That is Cubs won the right to Yu Darvish for 46.01 Million?

Dierkes response was that he had not heard.

Edit: Dierkes pretty much debunked it a few posts later.
