You guys are giving way too much credit to Coletti.

Think more along the Macias line.

So I talked to my neighbor today who was the assistant to the GM under Hendry and will have that role under the new GM. Take everything as a grain of salt because she wouldnt tell me anything too juicy either because she simply doesn't know (shes not involved in the discussions) or knows and won't tell me (and I don't blame her. Im sure all her friends ask her) but she did mention that names that she knows have been brought up and discussed so far are Rick Hahn, Andrew Friedman, Billy Beane, and Ned Colletti. She kind of hinted that Rick Hahn may or may not have already interviewed with the Cubs for the job and than the Cubs really like him. She said Friedman they really like too. Beane has been mentioned but they're not sure he'll leave Oakland. As for Colletti, I made sure to pass along the message that Cubs fans don't want Colletti. Nevertheless, its likely he is being discussed as a possibility.

If I hear anything else in the future, I'll share.

Next time you see her, ask her to let you know when Coletti is coming in for his interview, and then let me know. I'll place a call to Wekse and Yeti and this will all be taken care of.

I don't want the Dodgers getting better.

Coletti would be hilarious. I couldn't imagine Ricketts reading about Coletti, and then subsequently reading about him after "the hire" and feeling like he made the best decision. There. is. no. way. Ned. Coletti. will. be. given. the. keys. to. the. Chicago. Cubs.

Stop.

The new GM doesn't get to hire his own assistant? What kind of nonsense is that?

Maybe he just meant that she'll have that role under the interim GM?

I dunno, thats what she told me. She worked her way up from an intern at the company serveral years ago so I don't think they'd just let her go because Hendry was canned. Her offical title (on the website) is Executive Assistant to Vice President/General Manager.

Ned Colletti went to my HS and graduated a year or 2 ahead of me. Same HS and year that Jonathan Cain of Journey and Glen Grunwald graduated from (East Leyden). Ned's younger brother Rocco was in my graduating class. Do not recall ever meeting Ned and only knew his bro from gym class.

That ended worse than Seinfeld

In his blog Bruce Miles cited a story from Tampa about Friedman. Friedman refused to comment for the story, but Joe Madden sure didn't. Reading between the lines, I think it's a message to Ricketts that says Friedman is interested but it's going to cost a lot to get him.

I would like to know what Bruce thinks about it, but I'm not going to ask him on his blog.

That TB writer's evaluation of the Garza trade is hilarious.

I thought so too, but at the same time I saw Lee play last week. I think at worst it was a fair trade, but I didn't like how much the Cubs gave to get Garza. We'll have to see how things play out.

The scouting staff will be there for one more year and then, who knows?

I have no idea what the role of Executive Assisant is, but I assume their job isn't baseball related. Its all about being organized and being able to effectively communicate and such. So I don't think its absurd to say the GM wouldn't get to choose, at least to the extent that they would retain the previous person at first.

Um, it's a secretary is it not? It's not the assistant GM, it's the assistant to the GM. The person who takes his calls, buys his wife's birthday present and helps him keep his office romances discreet. Most executives choose their own, and/or bring theirs with them from job to job. Heck, middle managers get to hire their own.

Regardless, my point was that she's not going to be let go because Jim Henrdy was let go. She'll still be with the Cubs in some capacity. I don't know what she does on a daily basis, but from looking at the Cubs website, she is one of 17 people listed under the "Baseball Operations" heading. I honestly think she has a bigger role than answering the phone for the GM, but I could be mistaken. She started as an intern with the Cubs in the marketing department 6-7 years ago and worked her way up to the role.

Yeah, executive assistants don't tend to get canned when their boss is gone, they get thrown back into the pool of assistants and/or move along with that person to their next gig.
