I really like the concept of Theo loading up a powerpoint presentation to show Ricketts why he's the man for the job.

We're gonna end up with Carlos Boozer as GM, aren't we?

Can't the intern get the coffee, too? What a slacker.

@ScottMCBSSports

Talked to two MLB execs who know Theo Epstein well. One predicts he stays and fixes #Red Sox mess. One predicts he goes to the #Cubs. Stayed tuned.

Who considers this informative? Exciting? Anything but stupid?

I wouldn't read too much any lack of news. This process will take a number of days to complete at best. The Cubs have to sell the position to Theo and Theo has to sell himself(if he wants it).

I would look into the lack of news. This whole thing heated up 10 days ago and we haven't even gotten a legit confirmation that the Red Sox are going to let the Cubs interview the man. Now we don't know what's truly going on behind the scenes, but despite the idea that the Cubs are being really stealth, in this day and age, its crazy to think that a week could go by without any further news coming out.

It's just a long process. Schedules need to be co-ordinated with front office staff and the Ricketss family. No one knows if both teams agreed upon a window of opportunity and if no agreement, then move on. Theo is also trying to hire a manager for the Red Sox, where his allegiances lie, at the same time.

It's a selling process where the Cubs need to spell out Theo's potential authority, how they see decisions being made, development of a team philosophy, current roster, minor leagues, etc.. That's at least 1-2 days. If I'm Theo, I want to meet all of the front office personnel apart from the Ricketts and listen to their story. That's 1-2 days. While this is going on, there's Mrs. Theo checking out the area, the potential schools, etc.. So at the end of all this 4-5 days, decisions are made and offers extended.

WEEI:

According to a major league source, the Red Sox -- who are currently performing due diligence on potential managerial candidates -- will not bring in candidates to interview for the position until after the status of GM Theo Epstein is resolved.

Epstein's future with the Sox, after 10 seasons with the organization and nine as general manager, is uncertain at the moment, at a time when the Cubs have requested permission to talk to him and there is a report of his being seen in a Chicago Starbucks. Given the importance of the relationship between the manager and general manager, the Sox appear set to wait until the identity of the GM is determined before they bring in candidates to investigate their fit for the job.

That said, Epstein's status is only one element in preventing the Sox from interviewing candidates at this point. The team is also likely to interview one or more candidates who are still in the playoffs, something that will not occur until the relevant team or teams are eliminated. The issue is also not regarded as a significant impediment for the Sox, given that no other team in the majors is currently conducting a managerial search, and that the Sox did not start their last search -- the one that yielded manager Terry Francona -- until after former manager Grady Little had been fired near the end of October in 2003; Francona, who finished his eight-year tenure with the Sox two days after the end of this season, was not hired until early December 2003.

I still can't believe the play that Sulley got off the purple shirt guy report.

Dan Shaughnessy was on WGN Radio this morning; just said that he expects this to be wrapped up 'soon.'

According to a guy on PSD, Olney was on Mike and MIke this morning and said that Boston is NOT standing in the way, Cubs are NOT balking at demands and the thing holding it up is the offer. I hadn't seen or heard this all day, if it did happen. At any rate, today was a very slow news day on this front, so maybe this is something at least.

You have to be an Insider to listen to something that's free on the radio every morning? [expletive] ESPN sucks.

Does anybody else keep running into the Epstein-Barr virus when searching for Theo Epstein news?

Apparently, the Epstein–Barr virus (EBV), also called human herpesvirus 4 (HHV-4), is a virus of the herpes family, which includes herpes simplex virus 1 and 2, and is one of the most common viruses in humans.

Kaplan with a ridiculous article. Geez, Kaplan, why don't you tell Theo to not even bother.

So while Theo Epstein is a highly coveted name that will bring tremendous hope to the franchise, he better be coming here with his eyes open and not thinking that the Cubs job is less of a pressure cooker, as some in Boston who know him have indicated to me

Annoying how so many will want/think we want Theo just because of the championships when it has more to do with the philosophy and change of direction of the franchise in that regard.
