He's a leftover from the Tribune ownership, so I think that's part of it. The other part is that I believe he admitted that he came into this role having little knowledge of baseball, specifically baseball ops.

Mark Shapiro and Paul DePodesta are two guys I know who've admitted the same thing.

Kenney isn't a GM or even baseball ops FO guys like those guys are...

I understand that. I was just trying to speculate on why people randomly hate him.

Because of the stupid crap he did during the 08 playoffs.

And because the media seems to hate him personally.

Because he's a suit, and people are conditioned to hate the suits. The term baseball guy gets bandied about because all you really have to do is be around long enough. Outsiders are hated. He's tied in with the Tribune and people blame the tribune for the failures of the baseball team

He's a Trib lawyer who thinks he's a baseball executive. What quality prospective GM will work for the Cubs if Kenney is going to try to meddle himself in baseball decisions?

Perhaps one who heard Ricketts say today that the new GM will report directly to him, and recognizes that hearsay about Kenney doing nebulous things like "meddling" would be a ridiculous reason to pass on an opportunity as great as the Cubs GM position.

By the time I heard the news, this thread was already 12 pages deep. I've been trying to balance work, uncontrollable giddiness, and catching up on the thread all day.

Thanks to goony for the PC updates and for the detailed description of your attire and the things you've been doing to Ricketts under the table.

I hope Hendry catches on elsewhere, preferably within the division. He's a good guy, and he deserves all the support that the BFIB have to offer.

just saying for posterity that i want andrew friedmann

Yeah, me too.

It's pretty much a given that he's the dream hire. I'd be on board with Hahn, Ng or Preller too.

Not Ng. She's been in the same room with Ned Coletti a lot. I'd be afraid she might have retained something from him. Even if only by osmosis. It's enough for me to run away screaming.

I hoppe you are right and that Kenney has no effect on the hiring process. Although, Kenney getting launched would make me feel a lot better about that.

He runs the business side of the Chicago Cubs. That fact has been clear as day for years. It's been repeated by those in charge many times.

The term "baseball guy" has become one of my least favorite sayings in the sport this year. Tf does that even mean? I read it, especially on BCB back when I tried that dump out, and I don't even think the people who use it really know wtf it means. It just sounds good to their ears. There's nothing more annoying in sports than fans giving power to buzzwords...

Kenney is fine with me so long as he remains in the background, as he has for the most part.

JESUS! It's finally happened. I've bitched about him for so long I don't know what I'm gonna do without him.

I did experience an entire new emotion towards him while watching on CSN: Sympathy.

He really seems like a stand-up guy, but after all these years he had become a monster to me.

So long, JH.

No one here seems to be mentioning that Cherington guy from the Sox. Seems like he's got a lot of good philosophys coming from Theo's world.

Well, Boars and Bernstein on the Score have been saying that Kenney considers himself a part of the baseball operations. Its fine and dandy that Ricketts has declared Kenney his Business guy, but unless Ricketts puts up a wall to keep Kenney away from the baseball operations, what's to stop him? That's what concerns me.

Didn't you say his secretary is your neighbor? Is she hot?

If Ricketts specifically said that the GM reports to him, then if Kenney wants to keep his job, he won't interfere in such matters. End of story.

Good thing his job has little to do with baseball.

Most people don't realize that. And according to whatever was posted on the last page, if true, he sees himself as a baseball executive.

When the sentence starts, "According to Boers and Bernstein...," you're destined for failure.

Who gives a crap what Boers and Bernstein say about what Kenney considers himself. The guy is a business executive for a company whose primary business is to play baseball. He is a baseball executive. So freaking what.

There is no evidence of this.

She's cute I guess. I've only chatted with her about the Cubs a couple of times becuase I don't feel right obsessively stalking her for Cubs info. I will definitely talk to her about this though and try to get some dirt. Hendry mentioned her name in his press conference (Hayley)
