Thank god, this is an awful trade.

one would expect the victim of this prison rape to fight back, but no, it was the other prisoners, you know, the ones who didn't want to be turned gay eventually, that broke this brutality up.

why do teams go all bare-ass for the lakers?

you're going to be wishing this went through when chris paul ends up on the knicks

No I won't, I'm tired of the league doing everything it can to assist the Lakers.

Really it was the Rockets that were getting screwed. NO actually would've made out pretty decent, with a 1st rounder plus 3 starters for a guy who's gone in 6 months.

Maybe I'm giving the owners too much credit but it seems like they may have vetoed this trade as a pre-emptive strike against the Howard deal they knew was coming after it.

Wow, think the Rotoworld guys have an opinion on this?

Multiple reports have indicated that the league office may interfere in the Chris Paul trade.

After some major poking around and following the heavy hitters, there's only one word to describe this mess: Incompetent. Calls for David Stern's job have already hit Twitter from respected media members, and to borrow a quote from Dave Hogg of the Detroit press "the NBA's credibility has landed somewhere between NASCAR and the WWE." Stay tuned for updates, as everything that happened today will impact just about every region of the free agent market.

The Rockets were getting Gasol. They were making out fine.

What exact grounds does the NBA have to kill this?

They own the Hornets, and so they can tell the Hornets GM what to do.

This is simply awesome.

About time the other owners grew a set.

The post of a child.

Howard is apparently going to ask the Magic for a trade to the Nets.

Also, Chris Paul is reportedly considering a lawsuit against the NBA for blocking the trade.

I'm floored by the vetoing of this trade. It's a mess.

If they wanted to prevent players from demanding trades to big market teams, they should've changed the rules. As long as incumbent teams can pay more money to FA's, then big names are going to demand trades to teams they want to play for. The rule is supposed to give current teams the advantage in keeping players, but all it really does is get them to demand trades so they can have their cake and eat it too. All NBA superstars now feel they have a right to play on superteams in big markets and get max extensions at the same time.

If you really want to get rid of this, be creative. Make it so players can't get more money if traded in the final year of their deal. Or make a more rigid compensation system with more draft picks.

The Hornets were making out great in that trade. Dragic, Martin, Scola, Odom, Okafor is a decent team. That's probably the best they're going to get for how little amount of leverage they have. Houston was the one really getting screwed there. Martin + Scola > Gasol. They could probably trade Martin and Scola for a few good young players to rebuild their team instead of a (soon to be) washed up Gasol with no talent to surround him.

And what the hell Dwight? You don't like Chicago, but New Jersey is cool with you? Screw you. I don't understand why none of the stars want to play in Chicago with Derrick Rose.

I don't know either, but maybe we need to really start asking this. To me, a superstar SHOULD go out of his way to recruit players that will help take the team to the next level. Rose certainly doesn't do this. Is he being selfish? I don't really think so. But he needs to change somewhat about this, or else he may never have a team around him that's good enough to go all the way either. If it's shyness, he needs to get over it somehow. If he thinks he's good enough to not need a 1A to fall back on, he needs to get over that as well.

If the Lakers were pulling another Gasol trade, it still wouldn't be right to veto, but it's slightly more defenseable. But the Lakers were giving up quite a bit there and really changing the core of their team, not just adding to it. There is a really slippery slope here. If the NBA vetos this trade, whose to say they wouldnt veto a Deng and Noah for Howard trade? Furthermore why wasnt Bostons big 3 stopped? Or Miamis? I realize the NBA owns the Hornets and everyone was ok with it until something like this happens and suddenly it is a huge conflict of interest.

Either way it's gonna be interesting to follow this because I don't see this story being brushed aside in the near future.
