CUBS are 0-8 when they trail by 5 runs or more at the end of the 8th inning

Go CUBS !!

That's quite an impressive sample size for the first week of June.

I really can't get over that Luis Montanez is playing for the big-league Cubs now. We should see what Nic Jackson and David Kelton are up to.

Wow, I forgot about nic jackson. I remember buying some of his rookie cards off ebay.

Well, at least it seems like people are regaining their historical perspective. I was getting tired of people who seemingly had no idea the Cubs existed prior to 2003.

Some of us remember the 103 loss seasons of '62 & '65. This team, with it's injuries, could end up being that bad.

What a stupid post, on several levels.

Others of us remember that it was 66, not 65. :P

What I remember about that era is that 65 was the last year of the College of Coaches, at least in name (the rotating head coach system was abolished a couple years earlier in favor of a single head coach, Bob Kennedy, who was therefore a de facto manager). Following the 65 season the College was completely scrapped and Leo Durocher was hired as manager. He promptly declared that the Cubs were not an 8th place team, and in 66 they proved him right by finishing 10th.

What a great decade that was !!!

1956 60 94 0.390 8
1957 62 92 0.403 7
1958 72 82 0.468 5
1959 74 80 0.481 5
1960 60 94 0.390 7
1961 64 90 0.416 7
1962 59 103 0.364 9
1963 82 80 0.506 7
1964 76 86 0.469 8
1965 72 90 0.444 8
1966 59 103 0.364 10

One winning season, and an overall record of 740-994 (0.4268). Only the Kansas City (now Oakland) A's had a worse record over that period.

Colvin is pathetic

I'm about ready to write him off. Or maybe see if he has any trade value.

Wow, 374 OPS. I had no idea it was that bad.

.223/.288/.438 for the career. (HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN STARTING AT FIRST BASE THIS SEASON!!!)

Yeah, he's been awful this season. A 12.7% LD percentage, only 7.7 of his fly balls are going out of the ballpark, and a similar BB/K ratio to last year. It also doesn't help that he's had just horrific luck with a .094 BABIP so far. In 77 AB's, Colvin has 5 extra base hits and only 2 singles.
