Crean called out Hulls and Watford after the game last night, he must have borrowed the keys to Weber's bus. \:D/

Just an awful effort though. Crean doesn't seem to be able to get these kids ready to play for the road games on a consistent basis. He must have hypnotized them for the Purdue game.

So anyways, looks like 5th place in the B1G for IU now. 5-12 matchup on the opening Thursday of the BTT. I'm assuming a 10-8 conference finish now, not sure if that would clinch the 5th spot though. Lose at Minnesota, win the remaining two home games. Eh.

Wait, IU is playing North Carolina Central this week? What the [expletive]? Even a win probably hurts their RPI. What good can possibly come from it?

The explanation I heard was that since Indiana's Big 10 schedule was so frontloaded, they wanted to put another game in just so they wouldn't get rusty. Without the NC Central game IU would have only had 2 games in a 17 day period.

They couldn't find a good team to schedule? Why play a cup cake now?

It isn't like they just now scheduled this game. Maybe at the time the game was scheduled, Crean though we would need one more sure win to be NIT eligible or something. :stickman:

Having said that, I've never been a big fan of scheduling OOC games in the middle of the conference season.

Latest Bracketology doesn't even have Illinois in the next four out category. Iowa State is a 9 seed vs St. Louis.

He's got Northwestern in the last 4 in.

Can't believe the kid is a freshman. You can have your pasty white Cody Zeller for FOTY, but I'll take Burke thank you very much.

The interesting thing is that this might happen again next year just in reverse. McGary is a lot like Zeller, and Ferrell and Burke are similar as well.

Zeller has most of the edges statistically. Burke plays more minutes and gets more assists. Zeller shoots a much better percentage, scores more points, shoots better from the free throw line, blocks more shots, gets more steals, and turns it over less. Burke is asked to do more for his team, but Zeller is the much more efficient player.

i'm not sure there's many players in the country more important to their team than Burke is to UM; look at how miserably we played against Iowa when he was in foul trouble. he's sadly the only player on our team capable of creating from the dribble

you can't really close out a game better than Burke did against Ohio on Saturday:

Burke leads his team in 3ptm, assists, steals, blocks (lol) and trails by .2 for the team lead in ppg

I wouldn't put money on them beating Michigan St. Even in Bloomington.

Not that they aren't dead men walking, but if they wanted to get back into the tourney's good graces, they have the schedule to do it. @ #9 OSU, vs. Iowa, vs. #13 Michigan, @ #15 Wisky

Go 3-1 with at least 2 victories against ranked teams, and win 2 BTT games and they would probably be right on the edge of the bubble.

We'd only need 1 BTT win in that situation, if that.

Of course, I'd put the over/under on wins the rest of the season(including postseason) at 1.

In that case you would end the regular season 19-11 (8-10) with wins over OSU, MSU, MICH, WISC (or OSU again) and you'd probably get a 6-7 seed depending on tiebreakers with potentially Purdue, NW, Iowa. You really think a win over Nebraska then losing to Ohio State in the QFs is enough to get in? I think it could go either way.

Regardless, this is a stupid discussion. Illinois does have a history of rising from the dead in the BTT though.

We'd be 19-12 heading into the BTT. 20 wins while playing in the best conference in the country is a lock unless you have an embarrassing noncon (Minnesota)

Bubble teams don't have that collection of quality wins(Gonzaga could probably be tossed in there as well), and they only have 2 horrible losses. I'd go so far as to say a 20 win Illinois team avoids the play-ins and is a 10 seed or something.

But again, we're finishing 17-15 and not playing in any tournament.

That's pretty much what a good portion of IU's players are compared to Michigan State (this isn't an overreaction to the Iowa loss; those things happen and Iowa played great). It's going to be very difficult to beat Michigan State; I'd say IU has a better chance to win at Minnesota (Pomeroy agrees -- 60% to 41%).

raisin, what's the deal in LA, is howland going to be fired? i ask only because i think stevens would be a good fit--and being from indiana, may be viewed as the second coming of wooden out there.

He should be fired but I don't think he's even on the hot seat. There's all sort of turmoil amongst the players to go along with the crappy record. One reason he won't go anywhere is the *chance* at an elite recruiting class (on top of their current class, UCLA leads for Shabazz Muhammad). I figure a strong recruiting class only pushes off the inevitable - Howland hasn't shown he's able to build recruiting momentum and stay ahead of NBA defections and transfers. And hell, most of the transfers are because of him.

I'd love Brad Stevens and I think he's the #1 choice amongst the fans and alum.
