WSJ Blind Brackets

Somehow I got Memphis to the Final 4 (Gonzaga and Murray St. joining them in the Elite 8), with Kansas beating Kentucky in the Championship game....

It's safe to say that's not how I'm filling out my actual brackets but who knows...

I'd say most people would have Kansas, because they're perfect in everything except 3pt shooting in the infographics.

Kansas alum working for the WSJ?

my goodness, iona's resume is wretched.

Why the strong language? The last teams in the field will all have flaws. Nobody's denying that, but Iona had a very good season considering their conference. 9-3 against a 44 out of conference SOS is decent.

they beat zero tournament teams, beat zero top 50 rpi teams. their best win was (i guess) home vs. st. joe's. they lost to hofstra, manhattan, siena and fairfield. if you could somehow list those things on a power conference team's resume, they wouldn't make the CBI.

edit: i guess they beat LMU who made the tourney by winning that crappy conf tournament.

Nevada at home was their best win, and they also beat Vermont who is in the tourney. I'm not sure who you would replace them with, but Washington also had 0 top 50 rpi wins. Personally, I would have picked Drexel over Iona, but there are cases to be made for and against any team that's one of the last few in, as they are just so close. It just depends on your sensibilities and what particular scope you give weight to.

Miami beat Duke and FSU with only 2 losses to non-tourney teams.

The Pac-12 sucks, but Washington was only one game worse in that conference than Iona was in the [expletive] MAAC. They also played Duke and Marquette down to the wire on a neutral court.

i mean, i don't really care...it's hard to feel too sorry for any team that gets left out of this field. i guess my point was, it's pretty damn easy to make the tournament.

Kendrick Nunn's father says Illinois hasn't been in contact with him since November. Even though he's a top 40 kid and interested in Illinois. Wtf Bruce?

Maybe he thought there was no chance. I just really hope I don't have to hear the bitching about Weber another 4 years after he's gone.

we already have the top point guard and the top 2 guard in-state committed.

Illinois fans let Self go quietly and quickly, so I don't see them dwelling long on Bruce...

Recruiting talented primadonnas didn't work out too well for Bruce. I can excuse him for not wanting to recruit a kid from Chicago that's already committed and decommited to Texas A&M of all places and comes from the CPL. With that said, hire the right coach (Shaka/Grant) and the recruits will follow.

hire the right coach and score jabari parker, okafor, alexander and win national championships.

You're living in fantasy land. I'd be ecstatic to get 1 of 3.

get one and the others may follow. fill those kids in around the solid base that you have from 2011, the possibilities are endless.

get the right coach and i think you've got parker. i think shaka would do it.

I don't follow the logic here, what gets you from Shaka to Parker. If anything I think Theus (puke) would have the best shot.

haha, fab melo isn't playing in the tourney

Why not?

He's a freaky looking person. He's like 7'5" with the wingspan of someone 11' tall. WTF is wrong with him?

name recognition, youth, style of play, charisma.

He's good friends with the number one player in America who is also considering you, I would think you'd at least keep in contact with him.
