Oh I know, it's just frustrating to see the actual deciders bring up SOS like we were a WAC school when they had similar/better records against top teams as the alternatives. Ultimately though it means little, I'm more annoyed that they got an unlucky draw with their 7 and 3 seed. Hopefully the offense can outscore Florida and they can withstand Marquette's murderball impression.

Mizzou scheduled Illinois, ODU and Villanova, all on the road. Really pisses me off.

and 2/3 of those teams sucked. The other is a good midmajor.

Missouri clearly should've known that those traditional tournament teams were going to be bad this year when they were scheduled a year ago.

Looks like BYU and Iona were the last 2 in

Yep, and they were on the 13 seed line, too, so they totally got bumped for the BYU rule.

In fairness to Missouri, Illinois was a top 20 team when they played them. They couldn't know that they'd quit in January either.

Wow, Oral Roberts was the 1st team out, followed by Miami, Nevada and Drexel.

Lunardi didn't have Oral Roberts in his first 8 teams out.

Yep, BYU was 48 on the S-curve. Definitely moved for mormonism

And Iona was 50. Both of them were ranked ahead of all the 13 seeds as well as Long Beach (a 12).

Any ideas why they were unable to make this game for a 12 or a 13 seed instead of the 14? Surely there had to be 5-12 and 4-13 games that have a Thu-Sat schedule.

TT's transformation from anything but the SEC to today is one of my favorite NSBB developments of the last year.

I have to ask myself, if I were watching a school leave my conference for the SEC with a tournament title, what would piss me off the most? I'm also very thankful to avoid divisional association with Misssissippi and Alabama. Small victories help preserve sanity. S-E-C is still awful though.

No clue, the 12 and 13 in their region are Thursday-Saturday. Makes no sense to me.

Never said they should have. Just saying that Mizzou's BCS non con teams ended up sucking this year, with a couple of exceptions. When that happens, it's gonna hurt you in seeding, especially if you can't win your league.

My theory: the committee totally forgot about the BYU rule and quickly had to scramble to fix it in a hurry. They've forgotten about BYU before.

Theory 2: Putting BYU in Albuquerque or Portland is giving any potential 4/5 seed a first round home court disadvantage. So they had to go to Louisville or Pittsburgh, and that was the only spot that worked out (since UK is in Louisville, Syracuse and OSU are in Pittsburgh).

You would think that would be reflected in their record against Top 25/50/100 though. Mizzou had a similar/better profile against top teams, and their non-con weakness is largely out of their control(UI/ODU/Nova all turning to dust, none of the mid majors having a good year, etc). That their SOS is marginally worse than the alternatives shouldn't outweigh their marginally better performance against top teams, IMO.

That would make sense. I was going to say after your first post that if they forgot about them, they could have easily moved Davidson down to a 14 (which would have been a lot less travel) and then either put BYU/Iona at 13 or moving Long Beach to 13 (no travel difference, they're still going to Portland) and putting the play-in at 12.

Would they really think about the travel that much though? Portland is still decently far away from Utah (though obviously not as much as Louisville) so it doesn't seem like it would be that big of a deal to stick BYU there.

EDIT: I have no idea what the number is the committee looks at as far as distance a school is from a playing site, though.

I think I like Belmont over Georgetown.

I took Davidson over Louisville and Harvard over Vandy. I also made the probably completely insane pick of taking Creighton past UNC and into the S16.

Also the committee said that the 5th and 6 teams out were Mississippi State and Seton Hall.

That means a team like Miami was nowhere near getting selected

Miami was 2nd team out. You told us so. :-)

First pass, I like Long Beach and Ohio as upset picks. I have no idea what to make of the Vandy/Harvard/Wisconsin/Montana pod. It seems like Wisconsin's pod is like this every year.

Creighton's not a great defensive team. I think UNC would get whatever they'd want against them.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to put FSU in the FF.

Harvard I actually took to the S16. I also picked FSU to the Final 4. I ended up with a KU over UK final.

Yup, and once again I am an idiot.
