Nothing would make me happier than Indiana losing to VCU and then hiring Smart. Let's make it happen.

 

I looked at a VCU message board last night, they think Shaka's 8 year deal is a huge pull for him to stay in Richmond and that he is "happy." They also believe he passed on "better jobs" last year in NC State and Maryland. Another concern I have is he is waiting out Bo Ryan in Madison.

 

I'd like to see an initial five or six year deal, somewhere around 2.2 to 2.5 million with a clause that Smart cannot leave for the Wisconsin job. If that fails my list is Grant/Pastner/Heath in that order.

I'm not so certain that is the case anymore. Great city, rabid fan base, newer arena, sustained success. They are close enough to Chicago where a guy like Shaka could recruit it, and they also have a strong presence in the Twin Cities.

 

I still think Illinois is the better job, but the chasm is not as wide as you think. Assembly Hall needs a facelift, Ubben is beginning to look obsolete, and Champaign is not exactly a destination.

You are crazy, it's a far better job. All the talking heads have called it a top ten job.

I saw that. He was actually winning at UAB too.

 

15-16 this year. Second losing season in six years there. He won 20+ games the other four years, but his style of scrambling to fill out a roster is never sustainable. It's always susceptible to bottoming-out years.

Hard to be too upset though. Just making post season play was cool.

 

It's much more entertaining than holding the other team to 51 and losing by double digits.

After the Matt Painter to Mizzou saga last spring, it's hard to believe any coaching rumors until a contract is signed.
