IU building their nation leading home FT advantage.

This would be the 7th straight game that Indiana has outshot their opponents from the FT line, and 3 of those were road games. Basically ever since Jones went out with his injury and Oladipo was given the ball in his hands much more the free throws have been consistently high.

What kind of a jump shooter is Oladipo? From what I've seen it's no surprise the FT's have been high given he takes the ball to the hoop so often.

He's not a good jump shooter. However, he has good form and release. It is certainly within the realm of possibilities that he becomes a solid to good jump shooter in the future. I have a suspicion he knocks them down in practice already.

Apparently there was a ridiculously good high school game tonight in Indiana. Gary Harris' took over down the stretch and then banked in a half-courter at the buzzer to beat North Central (Johnson going to Purdue, Ingram to Iowa) and knock them out. 86-83 with a packed gym and tickets being scalped outside.

Facebook video of that: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=3303853591148 (for the record, not my page as I'm not even on facebook). Those were the top two ranked teams in Indiana's biggest class (4A).

That wasn't the only great game either. Lawrence Central led by Jeremy Hollowell (Class of 2012, IU signee) scored a game-winner as time expired to beat Indianapolis Tech, led by Trey Lyles (Class of 2014, IU verbal, best player in the state), by two points. Video:

K-State shot over 70% from 3-point range tonight (12-17). Our perimeter D wasn't great, but that is a ridiculous stat. They are not a great shooting team but just couldn't miss tonight.

Making up for the other day vs ISU. We're 4-0 vs the SEC traitors! 6-0 if you count football. Good riddance!

That was fun. Really fun.

See, I told you guys we would win. =D>

Lunardi says IU is now locked in as at least a 4 seed for the NCAA tourney and could push their way into a 3 seed. \:D/

I'm a little surprised. I figured that if they lost to Purdue and either Nebraska/Penn State that they'd probably slip to a 5. I think to have a good shot at a 3 they'd have to beat Purdue and make it to Saturday of the BTT. That would give them a good opportunity to steal a 3 seed from whichever team slips right above them.

It looks like the only way for them to get a bye in the BTT now is taking it away from Ohio State if they lose their last two games, which isn't all that likely. Otherwise it would be 5th seed if they beat Purdue and 6th seed if they don't.

So does Mackey Arena and Williams Arena count as our home court too? :P

MSU comitted four fouls during halftime and Travis Carroll already has two for Sunday night. He looked at Zeller funny on the TV.

How can you not look at Zeller funny. I mean, look at him.

Harris is going to kill it for Indiana next year.

I'm not sure they have locked up a #4 already. A lot can still happen, but it is crazy when you step back and look at what they have accomplished this season. Oladipo has improved so much, he drove at will against MSU, that doesn't typically happen.

MSU scored 0 second chance points last night, something else that almost never happens.

Just read on Twitter that the steal/dunk by Zeller registered a louder sound (by.2) over the Watford 3 against UK. It was nuts in there last night.

Yeah. I went ahead and got tickets for the session that includes the 5/12 game on Thursday. And I have tickets to all of Friday's games. I've never been to the BTT before so I am looking forward to it.

TRAP GAME TONIGHT! :P

Well, we got thumped by them on the road this year and beat them at Mackey last year on a buzzer beater so... yeah... that wouldn't shock me. If we lose tonight and beat you Sunday you would still get the #5 seed.

this SI piece on UCLA hoops' fall does not reflect very well on Ben Howland (or Reeves Nelson, for that matter), to say the least

...UCLA provides a fascinating case study. The former players and staff members who spoke to SI offer a detailed inside account of how seemingly minor problems, if left unaddressed, can quickly sabotage even a storied program led by one of the nation's most respected coaches. The Bruins' struggles tell a cautionary tale of the risks of recruiting hyped players, the challenges of managing recalcitrant teenagers and the consequences of letting discipline and accountability break down. Most of all, the problems at UCLA underline the precariousness of college basketball success.

i was just about to post this. i hope that nelson kid doesn't get drafted and has to live in modesto forever. and howland is one weird [expletive]. i can't imagine that he'll be there much longer, that program needs an identity facelift.

This is incredible.

In a game during the 2007-08 season, several players on the bench noted Howland's frustration with the shot selection of Westbrook, whose freelancing had resulted in several baskets. But rather than substituting for him, Howland informed one of the officials that Westbrook was wearing socks bearing an NBA logo, which violated NCAA uniform guidelines. Howland told the official he had an obligation to remove Westbrook from the game because of his socks. The official claimed to be unaware of the rule and let play continue.

My guess is that they are battling with Michigan for a 3/4 seed. While its true that they could both be 3's or both be 4's, its likely that one is a 3 and one is a 4 (or worse). Right now Michigan has a better conference record, but Indiana has 1 less loss and the teams both won at home in close games against each other. Both teams have a similar number of top 25 RPI wins (Indiana 4-4, UM 5-4), and don't really have many bad losses (number of +100 RPI losses: Indiana - 2, UM - 1).

Right now Lunardi has Michigan as a 3 seed even after the Purdue loss, and I would guess both team are virtually tied in terms of profile. Michigan has a slight edge in Lunardi's mind but I would suspect that if Indiana wins against Purdue and Michigan stumbles either @ Illinois or @ PSU, Indiana will jump them going into the BTT).

Sadly, most UCLA fans knew a lot of this (outside of the physical abuse from Nelson) and I doubt Howland is going anywhere. His reaction to the way Nelson treated Matt Carlino is grounds for firing, imo. From what I've heard, J'Mison Morgan, Nelson and Howland got lucky here - it could've been worse.

Sulley, Nelson played for like 2 weeks in Lithuania and got kicked off the team. No one's going to draft a 6'6" unathletic power forward who is crazy. Also, Reeves' younger brother got kicked off the UCLA football team last month for drugs and general assshattery. It must run in the family.

The ideal time to compete with a coach is if UCLA is in a scandal situation. They'll hire a Karl Dorrell-type who is clean, winning be damned.

That said, I don't expect Howland to go anywhere.

do you think things like this happen often? it sounds pretty crazy but for some reason, i can see other coaches doing things like this.
