Bears lose their first three. And the other GB game, at Kansas City, and Sand Diego.

Seriously? You're declaring the outcome of games in April?

If his knee is OK to run he should have played in the NFC CHampionship game and taken us to the Super Bowl!

LOL nice... Probably sarcastic there I imagine as it's been 3 months (his recovery was half that time max) since the NFCC game and he ran the mile in about 10 minutes and 12 seconds. I wouldn't call that "running". That's a jogging pace.

That's not even a jogging pace. More like a powerwalking pace.

We'll know early what the playoff chances are for this team. And we might be able to steal a game or two since it's still early. Throw in the extra preseason game, and a game in London, and the Bears really have an interesting season coming up.

Yeah, especially with the labor issues.

What would you prefer: traveling to London to play that game, or traveling to Tampa, thereby giving the Bucs a real home game?

I'm not sure.

Often there's something in the schedule that seems worse than it turns out to be. A good example of this is 2006, where the Bears had 3 road games in a row. Up until that time, I believe no team had a 3 road game stretch and made it to the Super Bowl (either that, or only a couple teams did it). The Bears did well in those games, and made the Super Bowl.

So it's always something. We can beat these teams -- just like we always do when we're playing well. Good pressure up front, smother on defense, no missed tackles, punch the ball out. That's the formula. When we do those things, we surprise a heck of a lot of people.

I still don't understand the 4 straight AFC West games after Week 11. That's 4 games in a row that will basically be meaningless in the NFC playoff race for the Bears for tiebreaker purposes.

Yeah that's really weird. I wonder if that's ever happened before (4 straight non-conference games)

Mike Mulligan of the Chicago Sun-Times reports that offensive coordinator Mike Martz recently turned down a one-year contract extension from the team, just like special-teams coordinator Dave Toub did before him.

The extension didn’t include a raise, so Martz felt comfortable lacking “security” for 2012. Both he and Toub could be coaching free agents next year.

Martz really can go. The offense actually got worse last year from Turner to Martz. And they probably lost a couple games and their QB for a game and a half mostly because of his scheme and his inability to either call or design running plays early in the year or his unwillingness to protect the QB early in the season.

Is that normal to offer an extension without a raise? Toub should definitely get a raise for what he's done with the special teams. I am not a big fan of Martz or anything but if you spend 2 years building your offense around him, I'd hope he wouldnt bolt after that.

This was the only time in Martz's coaching career where he did not raise his team's offensive ranking in his first year as coordinator. I think the Bears went from like 25th to 30th last year.

Hahaha yeah... it's not like the Bears offense went from good to bad. It went from really bad to horrible.

I wonder if you could just compare the offensive rankings for the 2nd half of the season where the Bears would end up. There was a huge change after the bye week. Some of those horrific early season games are bogging down the offensive stats.

Especially the Cutler concussion game and the ensuing Todd Collins game. That said, I'm no fan of Martz.

I didn't mean to imply that I was severely disappointed with what Martz did last year. But he is what he is at this point. He did adapt some last year, but he still generally puts unnecessary risk on his QB's health, isn't big on protecting the ball, and doesn't want to run the ball. Like I said, he was able to work with what he had the 2nd half of last year, but I know it killed him to do so.

I assume Jay Cutler got engaged because apparently Kristen C. sure did (based on Jorge Arangure on Twitter).
