So....second round pick? Kiper thinks the Bears will have the opportunity to get DT Marvin Austin, which I think would be a great value at the end of the 2nd. I'd just figure they should take the best player available at this point.

I wonder what happens to Omiyale and Williams now. I'm guessing Frank O gets the boot. Hell, he's even wearing Carimi's college jersey number. I think the line will either go:

Webb-LG (hope a FA or 2nd round pick)-Kreutz-Garza (hope a FA)-Carimi

or

Webb- Carimi- Kreutz - Garza (hope a FA)- Williams

I think the Bears are looking at DT, WR or CB in the 2nd.

DT- Marvin Austin (likely gone), Drake Nevis, Terrell McClain, Jurrell Casey

WR- Leonard Hankerson

CB- Davon House, Curtis Brown

I'd really like to see them go for the juggular on the OL and go after Ben Ijalana or Orlando Franklin at OG.

Hankerson might be a nice pick for the Bears in the 2nd round. Unless the Bears think they can get a WR from free agency. But I've been WR focused all offseason.

Carimi says he has converted Packer fans and can't wait to play at Soldier Stadium

Please tell me he didn't say "Soldier Stadium".

He said Soldiers Stadium actually, but Mully and Handley pointed that out to him.

If Hankerson is still there the Bears should go for it. Then preferably DT/OL/CB in that order for rounds 3-5.

I also wouldn't mind seeing the Bears draft a RB at some point if it's good value for the pick. Even if he were to fall that far, though, I'm not sure LeShoure is that much different from Forte. Bears desperately need a decent second RB option, though.

I like the tackle but it's a shame they either need to draft an interior lineman this year or possibly very early next year before the line can be considered up to snuff. Without any semblance of high end talent at the skills position, you have to have a somewhat dominant offensive line to really succeed as an offense. That being said, I'd like to see a RB with some burst, as opposed to the steady Matt Forte, taken in the middle of this draft. Does one exist?

I really hope they aren't forced to give up a pick to make good on the messed up trade.

That would work for me, except for 1 thing. If the Bears don't go CB in the 2nd or maybe get a CB steal in the 3rd, then I wouldn't draft one at all. I really don't see the need for a CB that's not going to be able to play this year. The last 2 years the Bears have redshirted DJ Moore and Joshua Moore as rookies. They would have done so with Zach Bowman too, but he got forced into 1 game due to injury and proceeded to be lost for the season after that. The Bears need top end talent at CB. I'd rather spend a 4th or 5th on another position that could help out this year (LB, S, RB) and if Webb and Carimi work out on the outside, spend early picks next year on interior OL and CB.

A big-time free agent signing this year could do the trick also. There's a pretty decent class of FA OGs, if the CBA isn't status quo. And there's a lot of interior OL talent available in the 2nd. Someone should be there for the Bears to take if that's what they want.

As for RB, this has been called one of the deepest RB classes ever in the middle of the draft. DeMarco Murray would be the ideal pick. 6', 213lb, 4.37 RB out of Oklahoma. But he might be a mid-2nd to mid-3rd pick. I wouldn't take a RB before the 3rd.

The rest (with the pick the Bears would likely have to use on them):

Taiwan Jones- E. Washington - 3rd round

Jordan Todman- UConn - probably 3rd

Dion Lewis - Pitt - 4th round

Da'Rel Scott -Maryland- 5th round

Derrick Locke- Kentucky- 5th round (but he's tiny)

Noel Devine- West VA- 6th round (tinier than Locke)

Mario Fannin- Auburn - 6th round (ran 4.37 at combine, but is a big boy that doesn't play with that type of speed)

I asked the draft guy at RealGM what he thought about Jerry's gaff and here's what he said:

Q: Can you give any thoughts on the Ravens - Bears trade gaff. Obviously the Bears are at fault. One of the local columnists here thinks the Bears should give up the 4th pick to the Ravens to protect their reputation when dealing with other teams in the future.

How does this mess up affect the Bears when dealing with other teams?

A: I wouldn't give up the pick. Jerry Angelo is very well-respected around the league as a guy with integrity, and both teams got their men regardless. I do think the Bears need to figure out who specifically in their room dropped the ball, and that person should be fired. Teams have guys assigned to certain phones and one of those only goes to/from the NFL office. It's almost never the GM himself but usually a Dir. of Player Personnel or a Scouting Coordinator that mans that phone. Inexcusable that whomever it was failed there.

IMO teams will have short memories and if they want something the Bears have to offer, it won't bother them. Now if Angelo initiates the call and it's to a guy he doesn't have a strong relationship with, I can see it being a minor issue.

He may have integrity (or had), but this is the 2nd year in a row the Bears were involved in an embarrassing draft gaffe. Remember last year and the James Starks pick was a bit unusual and gave the Bears bad press, albeit smaller scale.

Both were honest mistakes but Angelo has to get everyone on the same page.

Either way, its not really that big of a deal anyways.

If they're available, I'd rate them as 1) Hankerson, 2) Nevis and 3) Austin as my choices. I'd take Ijalana over any of them but I think Angelo would rather give away the 2nd rounder to Baltimore than take back-to-back OL.

Good job Jerry A.
